nigelspanda> Love the Pandas in the back side windows.

Where did you get them?

How are they held in place? Velcro?

Regarding the 4 seat flex pack. I have had the following on-line chat with Fiat:

ns: hi, can you please tell me why the 4 seat flex pack hasdisappeared from the panda 4x4 configurator? Thank you
Ana D.: According to our database, the optional for Sliding Rear Seats -and therefore 4-Seat Flex Pack which includes this option - is subject to atemporary delay at the factory
Ana D.: Weanticipate that production will recommence soon

ns: ok. i have my car on order with this option, so I can restassured that it will be supplied as ordered?
Ana D.: Yes -Fiat will ensure that vehicle such as yours, whose order was affected by thedelay, will take priority once production of this option recommences.
Ana D.: But Iwould advise you to contact the dealer for further information regarding yourorder
Ana D.: they willbe able to confirm that the vehicle is pending the release of the affectedoption, and that it won't be delivered without it

AnaD.:If you need further assistance after speaking to your dealer, you are alsowelcome to contact our Customer Relations team
Ana D.: thetelephone number is 00800 3428 0000, and then option number 4

AnaD.:you may also contact them via email, on [email protected], providingyour contact information, the dealer you ordered the Panda from, and furtherdetails on your order

Very interesting update.

Well, today the dealer told me (that he has been informed) that mine is scheduled for build in the second week of May. Goodness me, I really hope this is an accurate prediction...

Also, I wonder if this will coincide with the flex pack reappearing on the configurator?

Anyhow it will be quite inconvenient if mine is not delivered by June as I'm borrowing the Mrs' SUV then for a trip to France and I need to leave her something practical to drive!

Interesting as my Fiat Dealer also emailed me today and told me my Trekking was due to be built w/c 13th May so should be around 6th June delivery :)

I can't wait to see if you get strings on your parcel shelf or they have changed something on the 4 seat pack compared to the one fitted to my car.

I have fitted my Fiat Accessories "short aerial" and can now park the 4x4 in the garage without having to remove the aerial. Reception is still excellent although we don't use AM.
I was checking tyre pressures today, end of month routine! I noticed the rubberised/plastic wing liner had a slot to allow clearance of the larger 15" M&S tyres to clear the bodywork seam inside the rear of the front wing.
Not a great design, obviously an after thought from the design on the basic Panda chassis. Worth checking and pressure washing after winter salting seasons.

Had a mess around on the old roman road on my way home from work today.
Trying to get the eld to cut in to see how effective it is.
It works great!

I also did some rapid starts to see grip from standstill. I was on a dirt track and the grip is instant. Barely any wheel spin.

eld test
reverse angle

Funnily enough, after that I continued home and when i stopped at some traffic lights the engine cut (stop/start) and when it restarted the display said "eld unavailable check handbook" lol!

Filled up with fuel them, and got my best tank so far. 45.2 mpg according to Fuelly.
Computer said 44.9mpg. Well happy with that.

Hi deeyup

That is fascinating (y), though can you add some commentary on what are we seeing though that shows the ELD has cut in?

I can see that some drive has gone to the rear, presumably because you have unloaded one of the front tyres, but not sure exactly which axle(s) the ELD applies to unless its metered through the whole braking system?

Your insight will be greatly appreciated!

I assume you've had no further luck getting technical information on the system? When mine arrives (or should I say if?) one of the first things I'm doing is getting it on a ramp and taking some photos. For example, the difference between a passive viscous coupling and something that has to be powered up should be easy enough to spot ( I hope!!)

Thanks again

Does anyone know how much of the 4x4 is unique to the model rather than shared with the regular model? If the answer amounts to 'a lot' then maybe the Trekking (which should mean incremental sales...) helps create the economy of scale needed to keep some check on the price.

Just a thought...

Sorry, it's probably a rather daft question. I'm thinking the body must have some different pressing and hard points to accommodate the system and possibly even strengthened in places? How about the springs and dampers and rear suspension control arms? Are the rear discs and callipers stock-Panda? Bumpers and other exterior plastics clearly differ, so I'm thinking more about what you can't see.:)

Take a look at this video
I don't exactly know what they were getting at in the video as its in a foreign language to me, but it shows to me the eld was not working on that panda cross.
He does eventually get over the lump but more with momentum than grip from the unweighted wheels.

In my video, I searched out somewhere to get cross axled (balancing the car on opposite front and rear wheels) what happens then is drive is lost as its spun away as the differential send power to the route of least resistance, the wheels with no weight on them.
If you look closely the nearside rear wheel is about 10cm off the ground. Both front wheels are on the ground but the drivers side wheel had hardly any weight on it hence why it was spinning easily.
After a second or so the eld cuts in. This works by apply the brakes to the spinning wheels and the differential has to send the power to the other wheels. They are the two that are on the ground with weight on them.
Forward progress is restored.

In the video of the panda cross, it seems to me the eld was not working as the unweighted wheels were just spinning until the fella gave up and reversed.

I think only 4x4 has rear discs and other major differences are the 4x4 has more links on the rear suspension from what I've read. The rest if the car is essentially the same I would have thought?
The ride extra ride height is gained soley from suspension and not a body lift.
A slightly smaller fuel tank? And of course the 6 speed box in the ta 4x4.
Both trekking and 4x4 have higher centre consoles where the drink holder and USB port is with storage underneath this area.

You may well be right - though to my mind it would be a clever trick if the body is precisely the same as a regular Panda's. I would have expected differences in the floor pan to accommodate the transmission and possibly different pick up points for the suspension or sub-frames. Wonder if the design of the Mk3 gives any clues that might be carried over? The internet is irritatingly free of details - at least from my amateur search efforts!

Now if we were talking Porsches, we would be able to download full assembly drawings and parts numbers of everything from body sections, through mechanicals, down to the last washer. Or is that only on their older cars?

Hi Triumph7
My wife's Orange 4x4 twin air is great. I'm always asking for drive. Is yours going to have "pumpkin" colour interior - looks great - many admiring looks?
Hi, yeah really looking forward to it now. Especially as no car at the moment as I found a buyer for my old Saab 9-3 quicker than expected.
Yup, pumpkin interior + most of the options avaialble! :)
