Technical P0120

Currently have this fault code for tps. It also then shows hill hold and esp unavailable.
Wiring looks good and voltage curve on OBD2 shows no drops when just running on battery. However if I start the car and accelerate gently, around 3000rpm the fault appears and engine warning light comes on.
I'm going to remove and clean the throttle body but before purchasing either tp sensor has anyone else had this issue. I'm wondering if it's the sensor at the pedal or on the throttle body or possibly worse case the ecm. If a clean sorts this though I'll update. I just don't want to waste money in unrequited parts. I did think I could possibly remove the sensor and check it directly with a multimeter whilst turning it. Does anyone know if this could be a viable check?

Think that code is throttle pedal rather than throttle body. Sensors are integral with the pedal but I think the assemblies are available and fairly straightforward to change.

Thanks, so yes a good clean did not help. I've taken the pedal out to have a check and oddly when searching for a new part for my wife's specific 500 I get back pedals with bitron b720 potentiometers. It currently has a bitron c497. Is it likely someone tried changing this in the past and this is the possible cause or would it not make any difference?

What happens if you floor the throttle rather than gentle acceleration?

Will give that a try tomorrow when I get the pedal back on. Would it indicate anything specific depending on results? I'm guessing it'll just pop the code again but will see.

Yeh that's what I'm starting to think now although I would have thought I'd have seen some sort of voltage spike or drop when testing the curve if that was the case but nope, nothing.

So strangely after removing the pedal and replacing it the error (as yet) hasn't come back. Maybe a bad connection or loose wire? Anyway for now that problem can go to the back shelf as I'm now having to deal with the exhaust falling off yesterday seems someone had replaced the flex pipe and only joined that to the back box with some exhaust tape and a circlip, well done . Once I've figured out the diameter of the pipe I'll get a proper exhaust coupler on it.

Be sure the check the clamp hasn't rusted through at the front that supports the cat at the front of the engine

Yeh, looks like it's been cut and a brand new shiny Flexi pipe added. Just very poorly put back together. Easy to sort though. It just gave the wife a shock when it fell off on her drive home from work lol
