Hi,

So my car packed in on the way to work with no power and idle revs bouncing round and sometimes stalling.

I plugged it in and got code - P0105 (MAP circuit malfunction)

However, there are two sensors on the air manifold on a 1.4 active sport.
MAF and a MAP - Which is which?

I thought a quick Google or using eBay would clear this up but I get a picture of both types of sensor when I search for a MAP.

At a guess, THIS is the MAP sensor and the one I want.
because when I disconnected this the car ran a little better and I was able to get home.

The other sensor looks like THIS which I am guessing is the MAF sensor. But they are both titled as MAP sensors :bang:

Can anyone help, or confirm?

Thanks

Apparently the petrol gp didn't have a maf sensor only a map. Its right at the top near the back left of the engine. Just un clip it and start the car (may run rough/rich). This will tell you if its dead or not. To change one its just a screw really but there is a guide on it in the guides section.

Thanks for the reply.

My girlfriend had a 1.2L gp and i noticed that there was only one sensor on her car, however mine is the 1.4 8v and it has two sensors on the manifold.

I have seen the guide on this forum and the sensor they change is identical to the second link i provided. So is that the MAP sensor?
I did remove the sensor you are refering too and it instantly threw up a air temprature code aswell.

Maybe i should change both for the sake of £30 but it would be nice to know which is which and why the 1.4 has 2 sensors.

Thanks

I have a 1.4 8v as well. The best person to ask would be Andy Monty. Sure he said before that they don't have a maf sensor (maybe wrong).

The links both point to a map sensor as well.

There is no MAF.

Also there is only one MAP sensor.

The other one looks like it's the same but it's atmosphere pressure sensor.

The MAP sensor is also an Air temp sensor.

Thanks for the replies.

In this picture it points out the MAP sensor on the side of the air manifold.
if you look just above it there is another sensor connected, it was this one I disconnected to get home. With it connected the car was a mess.

which one should I replace

It seems i made the wrong assumption to which was the MAP at the start so thanks for clearing that up (y)

If you look at https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto-guides/227405-1-2-1-4-map-sensor-replacement.html the map sensor is the one between the bulkhead and dipstick.

Connect which ever one you've disconnected and then disconnected the other one. Now try running the car. It may run rough. If the issue isn't there then just replace the top one. If still the same id replace them both and see how it goes.

Also if it is the top one (think that's the atmosphere pressie sensor) then unscrew it and underneath it will tell you the make and number of the part. Google that an will safe time (less go to dealer) to find the part you need.

Also one more thing.

Don't buy that cheap Chinese sensors from ebay.

They just don't work.

Only original BOSCH parts.

I decided a week or two back to service my wife's 1.4 sport GP, oil, oil filter, air filter and sparks, while the air filter was off I noticed that the throttle body was pretty mucky so I gave it a liberal dose of carb cleaner. Car starts and runs fine, although I have always considered it sluggish, but now it surges on tickover, only by a couple hundred rpm although it does occassionally dive down and nearly stall.
Tried throttle reset, but no go, checked all connections, they seem good, connected MS, strangely it would only let me connect in simulation mode and showed a B0110, or B0101 error cannot remember now, a non reportable error.
However, if I disconnect the MAP sensor on the side of the inlet manifold, it makes no difference, if I disconnect the other sensor, it runs rough, so any ideas, why is it surging?
Sorry to hijack the thread.

Simulation mode wont sure anything.

When you open multiecu scan connect the yellow cable to the elm port and then into the car. Now select your car. Click scan dtc. If found that this will show you all dtcs from the car instead of doing them individually.

Hopefully should work and give you a code

Re: P0105 - MAP or MAF [Solved]

Sorry for the late response however if anyone comes across this thread looking for an answer.

I went to a scrap yard and got a genuine Bosch MAP sensor for £10.
No problems since (y)
