Over Revving and Temp problems

I need some help from other Bravo owners. I have a 99 100SX and its got a niggling problem thats covered under warranty so I need some suggestions for the guys at fiat who can't fix it. Please note they have previously installed a new throttle body that made no difference. Basically, when it idles sometimes it revs anything between 1000 - 1500, because it does this the revs hold and take longer to idle again, gears snatch and reverse clunks. Also when this happens and the fan cuts in the revs jump to 1500. Its been to a garage and they have run diagnostics and found nothing. Sometimes the temperature gauge reads 2 dots above the middle and sometimes it jumps up and down slightly. Any ideas, the garage say if they can't find a fault they can't fix it. Thanks in advance. regarding the temp gauge flickering, it was covered in the last few days.
quite a few of us have had it happen to us. its an electrical fault. next time it does it, give the dash a bang above where the gauge is and it should settle back to around the half way mark :)

BEAT YA! Just for a change :)

If it is revving anywhere up to 1500 rpm at cold start up, this is normal.
if you rev it, yes it will take longer to settle again :)

Just like to hijack this post a bit. My car isdles fine but when I put the air con on, sometimes it is great and can be great all day. Other times the revs will shoot up to about 2000 for a few mins before settling down and then usually revs flich from 500 - 1000. just like car is about to die then it thinks **** ill give it some revs. So goes to 1000 settles then back to 500 in a loop. This has stalled my car before at the lights. The loop takes 2 seconds to go through.

Any ideas...

Also when you turn air con off the car is happy and idles normal.

I had a similiar problem about 4 months ago , had a word with an mechanic mate of mine who waffled summit about an electric motor getting stuck and that i should just do an ECU reet , did that the next weekend and it has been fine ever since .
Sorry i cant tell you exactly what he said it was as it was a while ago but its def ok now , perhaps someone else on here who likes playing with oily bits will know ! .
