Firstly, can i say hi as i have just joined the forum and already have problems with my car.

I have a 1.9 td on a k. It ran out of fuel on a hill, and i can not get it to start now i have put more fuel in. Do you have to prime the engine like some other diesels, as there does not seem to be any fuel getting to the fuel filter. Am stumped as to what to do. If there is not a hand pump, then what else would anyone suggest

Thanks for your time

tut tut running a diesel out of fuel!

Have you tried cranking and cranking? Try removing the hose that goes from the fuel filter heater to the fuel pump. Use a something to drag the diesel through - I'd say suck on it and keep checking that you don't end up with a gob full of diesel but thats dangerous so I won't suggest that. If you can fill the hose to the pump with diesel it should prime itself and when you connect the hoses back up it should drag the air bubbles through without problem.

My 1.9 stopped with a clogged fuel filter and it dragged the fuel through without problem.

On my old Bedford, we had to bump start it when we ran out of diesel

still can't get it ti start.
Must state though that i didn't let it run out of fuel, i bought it of a neighbour where it has been sitting on his drive for 4 months after running out of fuel. The main problem is that i can't seem to get any fuel from the tank even using a hand primer pump i have attached.

Are there any bleed screws on the injector rail or pump, or anywhere else i haven't tried.

Someone must have an idea.
Please

have tried priming it between the fuel filter and the engine, which sucks fuel from the filter which i filled, but the car won't start from that.
Also tried connecting the pump to the pipe coming from the fuel tank to the filter, but cannot get any fuel out of this pipe at all

Am stuck, anyone any ideas.

Fill the tank to the brim with petrol, as in, to near the cap.

Buy some EASY START from a petrol station.

Disconnect the Air Filter Hose

While someone turns the key you spray as much EASY START up the hose towards the engine.

Hopefully the engine will start :)

Instructions on how to use easy start are on the can.

Not sure that will do his diesel much good :p

How much fuel is in the tank? If its been sat a while the pipe could be clogged with dirt. Not sure if there is a one way valve in the fuel line but you could try blowing compressed air down the fuel pipe and listen for bubbles in the tank!

Tipo derv self bleeds...

Just needs lots of cranking...

But it's possible you have sucked up some crap from bottom of tank and blocked something....

easy to prove if engine ok is to fill filter with diesel. car should start for a few seconds.
the fuel pump needs looking at and pipes need blowing out. any clogging or trapped air will stop it from starting.:)
