Only if going through a 3rd party supplying a courtesy car, and even then its rarely as high as £100 a day, £50 maybe.

The OP however is going through his OWN insurance, and not a 3rd party claims farming company.

Anything over 10 years is an instant total loss????

Is that true??

No it isn't. All depends upon the value of the vehicle over age.

I'm not being argumentative but the market value of a multipla will be very, very low! Not sure what year momoes is..unless its a very late version.
Mine being a 51 plate with 93k on the clock would be worth about £700 at the most in the insurance companys eyes...probably be looking at an offer of £500 first!
My 1998 20v turbo coupe with genuine 63k fsh etc only got a measly offer of £1k last year,i had to go on and prove it was worth a lot more!!
I hope I'm wrong...

Ow it gets confusing the old tale of 10 yr old cars must have gone out the window then I'm gonna wait and see what momme comes bk with

OK, Seat has gone and due to the inconvenience, I've been upgraded to a 12 plate Santa Fe which is £30k's worth of car.
Because I said that I had to have 3 full size seats due to child seats/boosters, a Zafira wouldn't be suitable so thanks very much.

Not much feel compared to the Multi, but quiet and refined. Very smooth 6 speed auto and 2.2 197bhp diesel.

My Multi is a 55 plate with 43k. Bought it as an ex mobility, other than an inordinate amount of trim damage due to the wheelchair being slung in the boot it was in good condition. Assessors due next tuesday but I expect an early decision as the car hire will focus their attention!

LV's assessors came out today and looked it over, took plenty of photographs and advised that they'll let us know within a couple of days.

I'm not going to commit as insurance companies move in mysterious ways, however
I am getting details of similar age/mileage Multi's for valuation purposes. I'm also looking for all the receipts associated with expenditure on the car!

Will advise on assessors report soonest

What's all the dislike about I smashed up a work van 2 weeks ago ended up with some Peugeot expert price of **** 12 plate size of a tyrannie connect from a iveco daily and company was charging £130 aday don't see how a mpv would be to much different u have to allow for loss of being new u putting miles on it and wear and tear cost 75 to rent a van to move house for 12 hours checked today with local company so that 2.2d momme has must be costing the insurance company a bomb not being funny but they gonna charge more if they no what it is and who if u get what I mean

Looks like it's gonna live to see another day, repair shop are picking it up tomorrow.

LV have not impressed so far, had a call from the car rental company today who wanted their car back!
Why says I, because your cars drivable says he.
Don't do anything, I'll call you back says I and picks up the landline to ring LV.
Before I finish dialling, mobile goes and it's LV!
Having established that I am the insured, he advises me that he's spoken to the car hire company about the car rental, What says I, I've just got off the phone from them and they want their car back.
No, he says I've spoken to them and it's all right.
Why did they want their car back?
Because the car was drivable.
What! When I reported the accident to you I said the car was drivable but you told me not to drive it as soon as I mentioned the steering damage, you said it would shown as immobile? You also put me in touch with the car rental company.
Yes, we did but our system is new and it didn't register.
OK!
By the way your excess has been waived
Does this mean it's recorded as 100% non-liability on my part?
I don't know
Has the other driver admitted liability?
I think so
For the record, could you confirm that
I'll check..........................(Long pause, cue music interspersed with "we're sorry to keep you waiting, one of our agents will be with shortly")
Yes, the other driver has admitted liability
Great, so it's a no fault accident on my part?
I don't know
Well, if the other driver has admitted liability and I'm your insured why wouldn't you record this as 100% non-liability?
I'll check.........................(Short pause)
Yes, our liability team says it's 100% non-liability for you.
Thank you and goodbye

Thanks for bearing with me, but this is a fairly straightforward incident AFAIC. God only knows what would happen if it got complicated.

Sleep easy and drive safe

P.S. Out of curiosity, I looked on the rental site for daily rates - £166.50! No wonder they want the car fixed.

Glad to hear that ur not blame should be out on the road again very soon with ur multipla :)

I'm pleased that's the outcome momoe, but quite surprised. There aren't many £166.50 days worth of car rental in a Multipla of that age! That's without even considering the repair cost.

If one's on the 'no blame' side of the claim, can the other parties' insurance company write your car off, or do they have to pay up, whatever it costs?

WMF, it's a difficult predicament for the insurance company.
Hire cars are supposed to be like for like, however you can't hire a 6 seater, the only one I know in production is the M-B R class and that would be more than £166.50!

This makes it a 7 seater which ordinarily would be a Zafira or the like (medium MPV), however I said I don't care "as long as you can fit 3 child seats across the 3 seats".
They couldn't do this on any medium MPV they had, so it was a Seat Alhambra subsequently replaced by the Santa Fe.

They'll be paying this until the car is repaired or I until I cash their settlement cheque, either option will take at least 5 days so it's in the balance.

M E Panda's, not sure that I can insist that they repair it, insurer quotes are completely different to private repair work - Ask at any repair shop for a quote and the first question is: Insurance or cash! I can't make them repair it if the quote is in excess of their beyond economic repair criteria.
I could buy it back from them and get it repaired privately though (Although this is at their discretion).
I'm going through my insurers and as such am bound by their decision (unless I can prove it's flawed or unfair).

All I know is that £166.50 is ridiculous but it should ensure matters get resolved quickly.

Going through your insurers then you are correct in what you say, but as I've mentioned going through other party's insurance direct as a 3rd party claimant and the ball is completely in your court.

Your insurance company isn't going to be to bother about cost of your courtesy car as they'll be claiming it all back from the other side anyway.

Car was picked up on Thursday, I contacted LV to find out when it will be ready.
They've told me that it requires an additional inspection which will happen on Monday.

Car rental is via Enterprise, this is discretionary in that they ask for the accident details, verify with the my insurance company and only then rent me a car.
They can take a hit if the other party's insurers won't pay out or won't pay the full amount (According to LV's help centre).

Multipla is being repaired, due back on the 12th December,
I queried how this is deemed economically viable as the hire car costs for 20 days would be around £3.5k, add to this the costs associated with sending an assessor round to take photographs, picking the car up to take to the body shop, having a steering/suspension engineering inspection and then repair costs will put the total cost of this way over the retail value of the car.
My insurance company don't take into account the car hire costs as these are borne by the 3rd party, if I was the 3rd party insurer I'd be extremely ticked that I'm paying way over book without having any input, no wonder insurance costs are so high.

Now the bad news, SWMBO has grown accustomed to having a newer, more luxurious car and isn't happy at having to go back to the Multi.
I'm looking at options but I'm struggling to justify having two cars. (and she knows it!)
