Hey guys, not really a Bravo related issue, but may be similar diagnosis as if it was.

My Dad's car is having trouble lately, it keeps popping out of gear, mostly noticable in 3rd and 5th.

When stationary there is a ratteling noise which disapears when the clutch is pressed in.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys,

Garry

Are you for real?! This is a bravo forum! Surely there are laguna forums?

Thanks Stephen.

Anon, as stated, it's marked with OT, it's actually about cars which is more on topic than many posts (not that I mind these posts). I could have even asked the same question and replaced the world Laguna with Bravo, would that be okay for you? It would be a much duller and lot less friendly place to be if each post was restricted to just the Fiat Bravo :)

a clutch is a clutch. A gearbox is a gearbox. I'm not sure what causes them to pop out, but i suspect it's gonna be expensive. Laguna's aren't known for their reliability :(

Clutch can slip, can restrict gear selection, but in general it wont push out the gear. It can happen that the clutch plate is wrapped, so it presses the gear out, but its rare, or the trust bearing aint OK, so the selected gear aint selected right, by that I mean pushed in all the way.

The symptoms you describe, indicate from my point of view, that the roller ball on the shaft that should keep the gear in when selected is stuck or broken, so the gear slips out.

But, if you hear any noise in neutral, that goes away with pressing the clutch, the clutch is the starting point. Get it to a mechanic, one way or another, the gear box must go down.
