I need to get a router to replace my hub.

Current System.
NTL broadband modem
into
P4 3.4ghz HT (Windows XP)
out to
4 port hub
out to
3200+ AMD (Windows XP)
and
P3 1ghz (Windows XP)

The PC's are always on (expect for the odd reboot), hence why the hub has served us well for so long.

I also have a Espon Photo R200 USB printer which i would like to add to the chain if possible. (Not essential)

Anyone have any suggestions?

Lynksys make great routers

Re: What router do i need?

I'm also after a router.

I have a 8 port hub (RJ45) with cat5 cabling.

I want to add the computer on the ground floor to the hub using wireless.

I've heard you can get wireless routers that can plug into a normal RJ45 hub?

Sorry to hijack your post Daz...!

re

most wireless routers i've seen also havea couple of rj45 sockets you can plug a hub or switch/another router into?

Re: re

Sorry forgot to include, I'm also running Cat6 cable with RJ45's.

No prob's Ian, we are all here to help each other :)

Yeah..

The only information that Tom could give would be that it's a dodgy earth.

Not helpful at all.

:(

Re: re

Few options really, but if all you want to do is network the Epson printer, can you not just install it on a PC and share it ?

Otherwise how about a USB Print Server - D-Link do a nice cheap one for about £40 which will connect RJ45 to USB for the printer... ?
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=168503 Look for D-Link or Axis - HP are the best but are way overpriced for home use.

Ian - depends what you want it to do.. I did one with a pair of US Robotics Access Points... 22M but run at virtual 54M if it's compatible kit... and cheap too... they were about £16 each. With wireless it depends what data you want to send over it and how many PCs at once your're looking at using..

Re: re

Doesnt need to be configured or anything. Did disable a few ports the were enabled by default think 80.

Did various security test and all tests came back stealthed.
