The boot is complete in 9 seconds.

With all services running (from what I can tell).

Running CPU-Z won't prove a thing - surely I could just photoshop the screenshot?
 
You could photoshop it, if you were bullshitting, but we would trust you, as we are honest people.

And 9 seconds ? From the press of the power on button to all HD activity ceased ?

Quite simply, no.

Just because your mobo allows you to overclock by 30% does not mean you get a true 30% increase in CPU speed (30% of 3.2 (0.96) plus 3.2 does give you 4.16 but that is just a simple maths calculation).

Do the CPU-Z test, be honest and up front and show us what it says. If you swear on your mothers life it is true then who are we to argue without being given access to the machine. If you "elaborated" on the actual performance and got it wrong, be a man and admit it.

There are a lot of real IT experts on here, many who would give their right arm and their granny to be able to overclock their 3.2 to 4.16 and have it run stable at 60C, but we all know that isn't actually possible, especially with Intel's notorious reputation for running hot.

But if you are telling the truth, make detailed notes of your set up as many people will pay good money for that performance increase from such minor modifications ;)

Evenin' Ben,

Nothing more sinister than going into my BIOS settings and upping the HTT Bus Frequency from there. This might depend on your mobo, but mine just shows up under Frequency/Voltage control, and you enter a value in there (mine only allows a figure between 200 & 233MHz).

My AMD64 3000+ normally runs at 2GHz, so I've got a nice little increase there. AMD chips run more instructions per clock cycle (9 compared to Intel's 6) so therefore show a lower "clock" speed. I'm not 100% sure what the "new" speed equates to in the inaccurate world of Intel clock speeds, but it will happily out perform any Intel chip up to about 3.2, possibly 3.4 under the right conditions

Always check before tinkering ;)

Hi Rob-again!

Had a bash last night, i am currently running at a healthy 2.25Ghz, with an increase in core-speed to 225mhz. My mobo is an Asrock k8U-760gx, thing is the multiplier will go to 25 and core speed to 300mhz! 7.5 Ghz - me thinks not!!!! What cooling are you running. My system booted fine and is running high 20 to low 30 degrees C. I only have the standard AMD heatsink though, and a single fan on the processor. I have room for three extra large (90mm?) fans in the rear. Just wanted to see how high i could go compared to you in terms of cooling, as it would be a shame to melt it lol!! Both mobo and processor have temp sensors though-so hoepfully no chance of that!

All I have is the AMD heatsink and fan on the chip and a large fan at the rear of the tower. The PSU has it's own variable fan too. My tower is a Cooler Master Centurion with the mesh front which allows for a good flow of air.

I don't have any temperature monitoring, but everything seems quite cool.

@ Rob - I would get something like MBM (motherboard monitor) to keep a check, especially if you are overclocking...;)

As you are probably aware, Pentium chips slow down when they get too hot, AMD's just cook themselves...

Yeah, I was just checking that out, along with Speed Fan and neither of them seem to support my SK8T800 mobo :(

Know of anything else ?

Looks like you won't be able to get any to work...:(

"The Phoenix Award BIOS is used on the Chaintech SK8T800 and has the usual menu settings and functions. One BIOS function that is missing is a Hardware Monitor, leaving no way to monitor CPU/System temperatures or double check voltage levels. This isn't because the option just isn't' available in the menu, its' because the motherboard has no in-place sensors. Once Windows was up and running, Motherboard Monitor among other hardware testing/monitoring tools was not able to read any voltage level or find any temperature sensors."

I said 9 seconds from the after the detect of the Raid 0 array - Which is where the OS starts to load.

So from the First xp screen (with blue bar loading) to up and running in Windoze.
 
I don't think it was the start-up time that was in question...it was more the huge jump in processor speed with a standard fan...

Anyway, there's no point getting into all this again...

Ok, still highly unlikely, but did you run the CPU-Z test ? Any proof of the fabled 4.16 GHz ?

Besides,

the truth is that I built the computer for a mate, through work, and he picked it up over the weekend.

I'll get a CPU-Z run from him when he's online soon.
