I have a Roland DX-3300 A0 8 pen plotter. Haven't used it for ages but it used to work fine. Can't be bothered to ebay it due to hassle of shipping something that big, if anyone wants it they can have it if they come get it from near s****horpe. It also has the stand with paper tray and wheels

out of interest what is a pen plotter?

it is a large printer that uses small pens to draw cad plots by moving the pens over the paper in an XY plane. This one holds 8 pens (so 8 colours or 8 different pen thicknesses) and accepts paper upto A0 size.

Largely replaced with big inkjets now, which is what i have done, but they are still used a lot in CAD offices.

pictures below. The thing has motors, cables, pulleys, hardened slideways etc so anyone wanting to make things like screens move in their car could strip it for parts.

Also has an electro static bed for holding the paper, i would love to see someone find a use for that in car! lol

May be interested, to use as a plotter for AutoCAD drawings... couple of questions;

What are the approx physical dimensions of it ?
Would you be able to pack it for a courier to collect ?
Do you know if it works ok with AutoCAD ?
;)

A plotter uses .plt files created by the "Generic Text printer" installed on all PC's.

You'll have to source you're own software to print to AutoCAD.

We use Océ Job Ticket.

Or at least that's my assumption anyway.

the dimensions are A0 plus about 4" all round. You have to have a printer driver like any other printer, available from driverguide.com etc. AutoCAD can plot direct to this device, however after version '98 AutoCAD changed the way the drivers worked so if your version of AutoCAD is newer than '98 you need to get a driver patch from AutoDesk to tell your version of AutoCAD to plot using the old way of plotting. The device worked fine for me like this but i used to turn off spooling as it would sometimes overfill the buffer and crash the plotter mid plot.

The reason i cannot be bothered to ebay it is due to the hassle of trying to ship it so it is collect only.

Haven't used it for ages as now have a HP DesignJet 42" which is great as i can do 1220dpi colour prints upto 42" wide x 90 meters!!! [and i will do prints for a small fee ;) ]
