Ok, I have asked for my MAC (Migration Authority Code) from Orange Broadband so that I can switch.

First of all they said it would be 48hrs and would be sent via post and e-mail.

A waited a week so rang them back up again. They said the Computer had gone potty and they had asked to resend the mac to me. I then waited another week and rang up again they said give it till Monday (just gone) and guess what still no MAC.

I have waited 3 weeks and they said I could cancel then order from my new supplier once the line has been cancelled.

This would be then another 2 week. 1 Week to cancel the line and another week for the new supplier to set up the line.

Any one have any clues what I could do??

Re: OT- Migration Authority Code HELP!

Ask for a manager when you phone and tell them to sort it a.s.a.p or you will give a full report to ofcom pronto.

Re: OT- Migration Authority Code HELP!

I have put the same message on FiatForum and someone said they could possible get fined for not getting it to me.

If its not their fault I can understand but I don't even get a number to the main place where the MAC's are dealt with.

Re: OT- Migration Authority Code HELP!

It is illegal of them to not give you it!

Re: OT- Migration Authority Code HELP!

it is illegal, your new supplier will need this otherwise you could be offline quite a while

Re: OT- Migration Authority Code HELP!

I've had this problem previously.

Customer Sces - Manager - Mention Consumer Protection and Solicitor - then say 48hrs.

Cancel your direct debit and contact your new ISP via Landline. I got 3 months free with all those threats.

Re: OT- Migration Authority Code HELP!

Cheers Rog

May give that a bash tomorrow

Re: OT- Migration Authority Code HELP!

Good luck, but try not to lose your rag. It's difficult, I know - especially when you're bad tempered to start with.

Be firm and insistent. Tell them that you have sought legal advice and that the CS will be contacting them too. Get names and write times and dates down. If you're polite and insistent enough, I bet the code will be yours; either that or you'll get a tempting offer. 8 Meg for me, free for three months then they'll probably get dumped anyway.

Re: OT- Migration Authority Code HELP!

As above - good suggestions, and def. way to go to get good results :)

Being insistant and polite is the key :)

Re: OT- Migration Authority Code HELP!

Hows this then, 2 months after i left Pipex, i spotted that they'd billed me my normal months charge. now i figured that the previous month was maybe to do with giving notice or something, so i phone them up.
Girl is nice, apologises, checks some stuff, and says i'll be cridited within 30 days. i aks for a cheque, she says "it doesn't work like that".
so 45 days later i phone, asking for my money. "Oh, the credit hasn't been actioned properly, i'll sort that out Mr Dickson"
"um, can you just send a cheque." i ask
"what happens Sir, is that i credit your account, and when your billing date comes around, because you aren't getting billed, it gets refunded instead."
still with me guys? good, because when i look at my bank statement from 3 months ago, it turns out my billing date was 2 days ago. so another 30 days to wait. Oh joy. anyway, about a week later, i get an email saying that my cresit was miscalculated, and that they actually owe me about £15 more than they first said. Sure, whatever, just gimme my money back already.

Well, anyway, that 30 days ran out. at the start of december! so it looks like i'll be on the phone tomorrow to pipex accounting, now that i've been reminded so kindly by StuR's post that they still owe me. Whats reasonable interest/compensation on £55 over 4-5 months guys? i'm thinking they should round it up to say.... a hundred? lol

i'll let you know how it goes getting a cheque sent to me

Well it's all sorted :)

Asked to speak to manager straight away to which they were a bit gob smacked and asked me again.

he then asked for some information and my problem so he could go to his manager with and said he could get the code up there and then.

2 mins later got the code with a bit of help from some pen and paper.

I did ask if he could get it why the others didn't do the same or why it wasn't sent to me. He then proceeded to tell me that they send off for them, then they get them back but go on the account. Its the ISP's in my case Orange that have to then email or post them on which they don't. Said they have people aiting weeks for them and they could be on the system for days.

Well at least it is sorted now :)
