Hi all,i bought a new processor from ian which works fine, but i need to update thefirmware for it to run at its proper speed, the only way i can do this is by booting from a floppy disk, i jave bought a sony floppy drive and plugged it in but my comp is not letting me access the bios. when it starts up it says press F10 to enter setup but pressing F10 does nothing. Pressing esc does nothing either. is there another way to access the bios to turn on floppy controller?

Does your keyboard have an F-Lock key? Somewhere in the top right

are you using a usb keyboard?
if so stick the old processor back in and go to bios and enable usb keyboard support.
or better alternative use either a usb>PS2 adaptor or a PS2 keyboard

i changed the keyboard and was able to get into the bis. but, there is nowhere in there tha t "enables" the floppy ocontroller. so i went into device manager and uninstalled the "standard floppy Device" and did a new hardware search, it found the floppy drive. It does not show up in my computer however. What am i doing wrong/?

in bios od you have floppy set as first boot device?
do you have boot up floopy seek enabled?
is the floppy cable the right way up?

first boot device is- Hard drive.

There is no mention of floppy anywhere

sorry cancel that last one, according to the bios the boot order is as follows:

First-IDE CD Rom Drive
Second-USB DEVICE
Third- Hard Drive (C)
Fourth- Broadcom Ethernet Controller

ok switch that temporarily to

1) floppy
2) HdD
3)CD-ROm

got to go sleep, if you need a hand phone me tomorrow on oh78679911oh5, i'll be at brooklands from 9ish

Goto your motherboard manufactureres website and follow the on-screen instructions as how to update your BIOS.

You'll obviously need to know the manufacturer and the model number of your motherboard. The manual usually tells you how to do this as well.

Just make sure you don't power your PC off while you're doing the update as you could seriously mess up the ROM chip !
