OT i.t help needed

I wanna know if its possible to print directly from my laptop on my home network. Currently i have to send everything to my tower upstairs and then go print it. Laptop runs vista home premium and tower runs xp.

Yes, but you will need a print server. Many routers come with them built in. Either that or you get yourself a stand alone print server for your printer. You can pick then up for either wired or wireless networks for about £50 or so.

Or you could just set up printer sharing on your tower, it would just mean that you need that PC turned on whenever you want to print. A dedicated print server is much easier.

thought this might be the case. also does snyonde know how to share files between xp and vista.

Cheers roberto but i cant follow that i know how to set up my sharing its just my tower wont find my laptop and vice versa. Is there something i am missing here with vista. i have set up networks between 2 xp machines before with no problem

How is your network connected ? Are you going peer to peer or using a switch/router/hub ?

Both machines connect to net through a router. Problem is i cant seem to make them find each other on the network.

Theres a workaround to make an xp machine see a vista machine and vice versa. Have a look on AVforum for it.
