Hi All, I bought a 300gb external USB2 hard drive from the internet a while ago. when it arrived it was 280gbish which wasnt a problem but it appears as two drives(E)+(F) - one 90GB and the other 190ish. I can format each part individually but how can i do it so that i have one 280gb drive- No partitions. I am assuming it is a partition as my knowledge is limited. i have taken the drive out and it says Maxtor 300gb on it. Any help greatly appreciated.

sorry forgot to put OT in title

Re: hard drive help please! removing partition.

Goto Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Disk Management....

Next steps be careful!!!!

Then click the drive that you want to format. Then right click it and select delete partition. Do the same for the other drive. Once complete the two drives you removed partitions from will be one big empty space.

Now click the empty space and right click again and choose format, select format options as needed and off you go.

P.s You'll never get 300GB out of a drive that states 300GB same applys for any other drive. Dont worry its normal.

Hope this helps. By the way the following steps are for Windows XP. :)

Re: hard drive help please! removing partition.

And if you are using FAT32 it wont be able to make 1 big drive. Format using NTFS

@T we dont used Windows 95 nemore. LOL

You will be amazed at the amount of WindosXP installs that use FAT32.

Its not just Win95 that uses it.
