Not news to me.
My 'other' car is a small 2003 Daihatsu Cuore, (same chassis as the old Sirion) I bought from new - even smaller than 1.3 Sirion/Yaris engine, (989cc) but has 3 cylinders with counter-balance, VVT, 4 valve head, sequential injection, e.tc. - if anything, slightly more advanced than the 5 cylinder 2.0 VIS unit in the Marea.
Was my main daily driver until I needed a bigger car. I've 'given' it to the missus, as I did'nt want to part with it
0-60 in 12.5 seconds and 93MPH flat-out dos'nt sound very exciting, but it pulls eagerly and overtakes much quicker than you'd expect - always more hilarious to 'scalp' someone in their bigger and 'obviously' more powerfull car
- light weight and very sharp brakes also help alot.
Another piece of trivia - The latest city car from PSA and Toyota, (the trendy but awful C107Aygo sisters) all have the same 1.0 litre engine, which is actually a Daihatsu unit, as fitted first to the current Sirion, (2005-.)
Although PSA ignore this fact and Toyota pretend it's one of their engines, (which in a way it is, but only because they own Daihatsu)
