Wimmy, I'm not saying owt!
Anyone who follows me on Twitter or Facebook will have seen the amusing stuff I have posted on the recent bout of sheep behaviour by iPhone devotees
Let's get it out in the open before there's any confusion, I'm a Nokia fanboy
However, this last year has been fecking awful as the Nokia N97 I rushed out and bought last year is a steaming pile of sh!te! Poorly designed internally, a clunky OS and internal parts failure mean it's almost put me off Nokia's for life. And that takes a LOT of doing.
Even the prospect of the upcoming N8 doesn't inspire me. The OS used on the N97 (Symbian ^1) and the version on the N8 (Symbian ^3) is still stuck in the realms of non touch devices. iOS4 looks and works a lot better.
However, iOS4 is still highly restrictive in terms of what you can and can't do with the device overall. At least Symbian is open and allows you to pretty much do whatever you like on it. There are no silly rules or hoops to jump through. No company telling you that you can only install apps they have approved and sold through their store.
And iOS4 still doesn't have PROPER multitasking. It's better than having none, like previous iterations of the iPhone, but it's still not true multitasking. I've seen a Symbian device run 67 applications at once. An iPhone4 would baulk at about 4 or 5.
And don't get me started on the left handed loss of signal issue, or the issue that sees discolouration of the front screen. But hey, no device is perfect. But it would seem that Apple have got a bit complacent and are copying too many of Nokia's mistakes.
IMHO, the best smart phone out there right now is the HTC Desire. It's fast, slick and the Android OS is brilliant.
But, and I am not insulting iPhone users per se, there are differnet smart phones for different people and different uses. The iPhone has predominantly won an audience of people who were scared by smart phones and were put off by the rather complex nature of them. Apple simplified and watered down the concept and then used their incredible marketing clout to sell it. At that, Apple are masters indeed.
Buy a smart phone that does what you want, not just because it looks cool
