I have come across a piece of software called the 'netcraft toolbar'

http://toolbar.netcraft.com

This assists you in identifying phishing sites and you can report any you find to Netcraft and they block them for other users of the toolbar. This is the first anti-phishing software I have found an it works very well, giving sites a risk rating.

Best of all, they give you a free gift when you report your first phishing site! My large Netcraft mug arrived today, lol.

Might be worth adding to the post about the spyware software etc.

PS Remember to get your free mug, after you report a site, you will get an email from Netcraft thanking you and asking for your postal address this not a scam email, my mug arrived to day.

PPS I am easily pleased :)

I already had a hardware/software combination for blocking phishing scams.

The hardware is called Brain
The software is called Common Sense

Have to agree with you on that 100% Half the problems with PC's these days are down to the users who are so thick they should never be allowed near one...

Sadly Mark, not everyone is blessed with your mind blowing intelligence ;)

Heck,

If only we were all as clever as you Mark, I could stop a virus just by tasting the air.

Waiting for enlightenment,

Conrad

PS. Realy sorry for trying to help other people

No offence meant!

I stop viruses by updating my AV software every time I switch on my computer. (Well, almost! See end.)

There is a link, allegedly to the secure (https://...) Paypal website. If I hover my cursor over it, the address bar at the bottom left of the window showes a totaly different, unsecure (http://...) site address.

This is just one way to detect a phishing email.
It is, as I said, all down to common sense.
As I also said, no offrence meant.

P.S: If I'm so clever, how come I let a virus attack my computer the other week!
