At last the damn thing is painted and rolling - I brought it to work today. 1242 engine, 40mm lowered on Bilstein shocks and springs, twin Mondeo headlights, de-everythinged bootlid, Honda Prelude seats, 14" wheels, Sportex exhaust, Tricker TB on the way. This pic is just before it was fully finished - I'll stick up more later.

mate, you shoulda seen what colour i painted my old room. bright orange and a kind of imola blue (this was before i knew of imola blue cinqs too!)

Gimp my ride...

Sorry for delay replying - on the road with work for the last few days.

@arc - paintjob bill not in yet - I did a lot of the work stripping/rebuilding and rubbing/masking to keep the cost down. The colour choice took ages - it came down to this orange, or the snot green they used on the '97 Seat Ibiza Cupra but the orange won after I patch tested it. If you painted your room the same shade as my car you should be blind by now...

@joecinq - the meshed bumper looked a bit bare and I had those lying around from my last cinq which was black with blue 'bits' to I just tacked them in with silicone - they might get the bin yet...

@bloomfieldliam - the two front seats came from a very tidy '89 Prelude and were easy to fit, I put a piece of 1" box iron across the front mounts and bolted the seats to it. The rear mounts needed individual spacers also made from box iron to allow rear passengers feet to fit! The back seats needed steam cleaning and they are almost dry so will go in this weekend. Maybe...

@babysei - opinion is divided on the spoiler, I failed to get Joy Tuning to reply to my attempts to buy a normal one so I found one off a Pug 405, and cut 9" out of the centre of it. My mate who works on race cars pointed out that it is facing the wrong way and will 'lift' the back end, but I doubt it has any effect except on the sensibilities of people who drive diesel Fords...

@jonnyboy - I knew as I was spraying the wheels you would comment on them - you are a well known fan of black wheels!!! They are painted a shade of Vauxhall metallic black that was going spare.

@cinQ_Dave_big_name - pics of lights to follow - they came off a body-kitted Mondeo and are Cibie standard kit, should be easy to get but they cost me fifty europeans from the local scrappy and were easy to fit after I welded a metal plate on the 'arch' where the headlight normally goes. My old headlight adjusters were shagged and the badboy bonnet blocked too much light from them anyway. I busted a set of BMW 520i lights trying to get them to fit...

@RobW - (Rob Whitney?) Glad you like it - not in clubcento due to cost/lack of activity this side of the country, only two or three modified cinqs/seis for a hundred mile radius (and I have two of them). 1969 Mini 1275 awaiting rebuild, X1/9 on blocks under bedroom window, attic being used as spray booth/prep area, carbs and starter motors in kitchen cupboards... If I get time and I have any money, I would love to take Skanger Banger to a UK show later in the year - will need to get my furry dice fluffed up first though.

Sony CD head unit waiting to be fitted, Tricker TB in the post (eh tricker!?) Arches need trimming due to 'scrubbing' on bumps, Mk1 Punto skirts cut down and sprayed, LED indicators front and side, awaiting time to fit them.

Wish list - C&B 280 cam, Supersprint exhaust (both £185 from gazzella.com but sponsorship space available for discount if anyone from there is reading this!!) Induction kit to suit 40mm TB, 6 speed g-box from Punto ELX. 100bhp or bust...

Dave.

Re: Gimp my ride...

What a post! I'd get tired typing all that!!

Thanks Dave so what your saying is any seat fits as long as you make the subframes yourself then, ok cheers.

Re: Gimp my ride...

That didn't take long, I type for a living!

Any seat will fit provided it isn't so wide that you can't grip the handbrake (I made this mistake when I put seats from a Rover SD1 into a Renault 5!)

So, what colour do I paint the brake drums?...

I like the whole car incl the spoiler looks really cool and !different! for a change instead of a Abarth spoiler set... .

Keep up with the good work and indeed go for black brake drums.

Any colour you like really, anyone worth their salt will know Cinqs don't have rear discs (rallycinq being the only exception) so wether you bring attention to them is immaterial.

Going by the car though I'd say orange like the bodywork, black or lime green!

Oh and remember to do the fron calipers too.
