as for putting optimax in a cinq... provided the car accepted it (my uno didnt and drove like an arse for 2 days (cutting out and hardly any power)) then it would untill the ECU got used to it and altered itself and then ti would run like it was on normal petrol

I used to use Tesco petrol in my Punto, but then tried our local community garage that sells Carlton fuel and I really did see a difference. It seems like I'm driving a different car when using Carlton fuel. I have used tesco once in my stilo, and immediatly felt a loss of power compared to my usual fuel. I'm happy to spend an extra 1p a litre for the better fuel.

A mechanic told me he knew I used shell or BP because the engine runs smooth - he said BP and Shell are the best because they use a lot of additives - I have no problem with shell. Don't use ESSO - they test on animals!(EVIL)

I have never used Total! will never use supermarket fuel - bad experience!

That is why it is best to avoid supermarket fuels full stop - no additives, or not many, depending on what the tanker driver got bunged.

Also, fuels can vary nationally, depending on the depot being used. At the end of the day, you will know when a fuel is right for your car, whatever the brand. I just so happen to get on with Shell!

In your NI case, nothing - apart from price and any loyalty scheme attached to it :).

Be interesting to hang around the depot and see what tankers come and go - did I just say interesting??!

Lol - but I am sure that certain additives are only added at the filling station end by the tanker drivers. Need more clarification on that one; don't know many oil company tanker drivers, funnily enough.
Think you are probably safe sticking to the big name brands then - your logic is pretty sound!

I have to totally desperate to use supermarket fuel - and i mean desperate, and when I do I will only put a bit in - may car kept cutting out with Tesco fuel - so never again[}:)]
I once filled up at sainsburys in cheltenham. that seemed ok but still would just use shell/bp out of choice

I can fill up my Uno with "Uno-X" fuel. Beat it!

Nobody's mentioned Sainsbury's petrol yet, so I thought I would :D I use nothing else, either in my old Panda or Penny's Tino. Never had any problem with it (yet) :)

Also, ESSO is a definite no-no as Sammiboo says. While you're at it, don't buy Proctor & Gamble products either ...

You're all too brand loyal! The majority of the time, the fuel you use is always the same nevermind where you go (not including different octane levels obviously),
