Iv been looking at modding it a little, not spending loads though.

its a 5 door stilo (which limits modding because it wont look as good?)

I plan to put:

alloys and probably tint the windows (can anyone reccomend a good place to go to get this done?)

I was also looking at the KN induction kit,
http://www.performance-filters.co.uk/p1505140.htm

Is the MPG gain high? or isit pointless getting? If i do get it, is it easy to install?

thanks

Tints suit a 5 door (tinted mine 25% semi-reflective and never looked back) you have to be aware of regulations though (think max you can legally do now is 20% or was it 15%? On front windows), also be aware that it is much harder to see at night (you have to keep glass clean to see anything at all and you will see nothing unless you are in city centre). Alloys are a good mod (but they are easier to fracture e.g. had a drunk guy fall in front of me a while ago – ended up driving into opposite road border at 25 mph – my cheap steels were hammered in and balanced – good as new, an alloy would’ve fractured). Induction kits are a waste – unless you can guarantee lots of cold air going in (hard to do if it is mounted inside engine bay .. engines tend to be hot..) you are better off with k&n panel replacement filter and a remap.

Alloys are a good choice but have you considered blinds which are not only cheaper but far more practical than tints (use Search to find more info)

Oddly enough mud flaps improve the look of the rear as well as being practical (y)

so really, an induction kit is pointless? just get the air filter?

i think alloys are a must, although i know absolutely nothing about them at all.

they look really nice, but are they worth it?

mud flaps? really...hmmm might look into that.
i was looking at the blinds vs tints thread, i was considering blinds, but they just look cheap inside the car, altho how much on average would you say im looking at for tinting? £200-250?

no idea - tinted mine all by me self (stilos are hard to take apart without breaking something - given that most places have never seen a stilo before .. good luck). Induction kit is indeed useless unless you invest further and route cold outside air to the kit (like a bonnet/ram intake) while a good k&n panel filter can still give you some +3 bhp (or there about) and requires no modification to your car (call your insurance company and ask how much more you will have to pay if you modify your car... and if you don’t tell them and need to make a claim – they will have the right to ignore your claim all together..). Alloys are worth whatever you are prepared to pay for them (personally i don't give a t**s - my car was register 03 - a set of alloys will cost more than the car) -invest in good tires and computer geometry/tracking - much better result for your buck - or get a nice nitrous oxide kit (guaranteed to blow up your engine :) if you use it twice)

yeh but using nos would be brilliant..till u blew up the engine.

yeh, i cant be bothered with all that, not exactly the most techy minded when it comes to cars. Think the air filter will do, potentially much easier to fit?

how hard are they to fit?

i think alloys are a must really, the caps iv got look terrible really...

filter is easy to replace - just remove lower tray - filter box can be opened from under the car (helps if you get it on a ramp). It is also possible to get the whole box out if you remove your battery + all connections/wires behind the battery + battery drip tray.. (i tried both methods for the sake of it.. from below it takes 15 min.. from the top it would take an hour - if you know what you are doing)
best of luck and do let us know how your K&N filter behaves

:ROFLMAO: - now this is going to stir things up

I'm not going to be the only one to say this (and have said it before) but I test drove my Stilo with the induction kit fitted and had it removed prior to collecting the car due to the warning lights on the dash - the difference is very noticeable - if it wasn't for the fact of selling the car I would of had a GSR kit re-fitted.

If you're going to change the filter, don't mess about with some nasty K&N effort - get a GSR kit (GSR_INDUCTION_KIT-STILO) many on here will recommend them over anything else.

They do make a little difference about 4bhp lol on my 1.6. I would get a GSR induction they sound amazing. :yum:

You can get rear lense covers and paint them body coloured.

The Ragazon i think spoiler look's ace.

Ne exhaust

Thats the one that i meant :worship: One day i will stop spending all of my money on ICE and get one. In fact f it im gonna get one now where do i purchase

Hmmmm..... think you might be the very first person to suggest the blinds look cheap - Personally I'd say a custom blind set looks anything but cheap

They do of course look exactly like blinds once you're in the car so would be rather silly to think they might look like tints.

However from the outside, at even a modest distance, they certainly give the impression of quite a dark tint - plus you can take them out in the winter.

Another plus with the 5 door is you get the full 5 windows set which means you can open the rear windows with blinds still doing their job

have you actually compared the performance of k&n replacement filter vs induction kit? on a 1.6 pertol.. (it wouldn't be more than 1bhp) - everone to his/her likes

Ah fair point, I didnt have an engine that small :D

Agree with Argo on this - have blinds on mine and you've got to get pretty close to notice they're blinds - and they can be removed in winter (one nights driving in crappy weather with them fitted made me realize how dangerous tints could be)

You are not taking into consideration the sound and lets face it the sound is the main reason to buy induction for a 1.6. The GSR is absolutely mental for sound on the 1.6, come to a meet that im at and have a listen ;)

I really dislike the blinds i think they are god awful. But i do have dark tints and reversing in areas with no light is very difficult (but not impossible). The law seems to be that you are allowed to use a 70% Block on the rears and 30% on fronts (not windscreen). I think!!! Any reputable tint shop will be able to advice you. I paid £200 for mine with a tint strip on the front (much better than a sun strip as it go's on the inside, blends in well with the window, is completely legal for MOT and you can see the trafic lights through it)
My tints have a lifetime guarantee too (which i should bloody hope so for the money)

I have and can tell you, that you are wrong.

And you are right. The difference is huge, especially throttle response and torque.

About the blinds, I don't quite like them either, but that's just my taste. They are amazing as you can have sunshade and still open the rear door windows, and they work like a mosquito net. And you can remove them in seconds.

The tinting of the rear door windows is difficult as it is nearly impossible to remove the glass completely. After removing two inner frames, lock mechanism, rubber seals etc. you still can't get it out as it is hooked somewhere into the frame on one side. This means you can't get to the last screws that holds the plastic trim on the outside to the metal. I actually think you must either smash the glass or wreck the clip gadget to get it out, then get a new window (in advance and already tinted) and just "click" it in place. I've done this on other cars but never met this obstacle. So... if anyone knows how to remove the rear windows please let me know. And yes, I know it looks easy through the reapair manual... but the manual can't be right.

If I found out, I'd go for tinting over the shades. They work as a safety film aswell, in case of damage.

M.
