since ive had it ive had to wait a while after a page loads before i can click on a link or scroll the page

Remove flash player, remove opera, reboot. Install opera. Test, Install flash, test.
Does this fix it?

IMHO Opera is unrivaled, once you get used to mouse gestures and all the other nifty well thought out but simple implications in Opera all other browsers seem like they are from the late 90s

I used to use Opera, I played with the mouse gestures - then tired of them. I don't need/like them. My mouse has enough buttons to do what I want, and if I'm on the laptop then there are plenty of keyboard shortcuts to do the same thing and that removes the ambiguity of a gesture.

Side salads asisde, Chrome renders quicker for me - so I'll stick with that.

Has Opera been bought by Facebook yet? That'll be fun.
