This has been done before. Firstly why would you want to? It's a safety feature and safety features should NEVER be tampered with at all.

It would be nice to have an override for this feature, for those of us without kids. They can override passenger air bags after all.

It's a bit like the washing machine feature that prevents the door being opened for a minute, or even an agonising two, after the thing has finished. This can be the longest minute in the world, and if you don't have children, who obviously always climb in the minute the thing has almost stopped, there is no need for it.

My washing machine is on its last legs and I hope I can find one designed for grown ups, but given health and safety I dare say I'll have another infuriating household aid in my flat.

Is it such a problem though? Sure it's a little annoying for me not having children myself either but at the end of the day just hold the button down *shrug*

The safety feature on washing machines is there to protect everyone and also to stop you opening the door when there's water inside.

If we didn't have these features people would be getting hurt and people would be complaining.

tbh the feature though with the window is stupid, what stops a kid closing the door with his fingers wrapped around the edge of the door frame and crushing his fingers that way? At least the window and the top of the door frame is high (in respect to a child)

Yes but there is no solution to the crushing of fingers in doors. It's just the way it is. It's been established why the feature is there, it's like that on all cars. Why is this thread still going?

i see where you're coming from, but i honestly do not believe this is the main reason. The only other possible thing i can think of (in respect to the child) is the driver not having complete control of the passenger window next to him/her. To adjust the passenger window they would literally have to reach over.

(Sorry if i've kind of taken over the thread)

Perhaps. The point for me is that the person driving is always going to be an adult who is 100% in control and aware. you could have someone disable or just very young in the passenger seat.

It's an annoyance. I'd like the option to delete or override it and make my own mind up when I open the door. In a gazillion years I have never opened the machine with water in it and so I've never felt the need for it, and I am often in a hurry.

I like options.

I'm sure you could call up one of the big washing machine manufacturers and say that you would like this feature. Be prepared for them to laugh at you though

Well, perhaps some machines still come without the delay: I'll see when the time comes.

I can't see why they'd laugh at a good idea though.

Child in passenger seat gets finger stuck in window...... nasty....

Won't happen anyway because windows with a one-touch up operation jump down when they hit an obstruction - even my 1990 Vauxhall Cavalier did this.

This is not a safety feature in my opinion, I think it's just a rather strange decision on the part of Fiat, or perhaps some wierd and wonderful European law on health and safety. It might save them a few Euro cents although I suspect it actually costs more because of the need for two different sets of components for LHD and RHD.

Why is this thread still going?

Because it's a new thread started today, you're getting it confused with the one I started a month or so ago! ;)

one shot down/up is only ever really featured commonly on the drivers window on any car- a convenience/safety feature for keeping in control-( 2 hands on the wheel when driving), when needing to operate the window.

i dont think its ever really been thought necessary to have it on the passenger windows- after all its hardly hard work holding a button down for a few seconds.

no car i have ever had had one shot on any other window!
