Hi to everyone! Was using this forum for quite a bit and finally I can’t find the answer to my issue. On this forum there are tons of posts regarding loose connection and alternator failure however I am stuck now. Had same few months ago and replaced a battery and issue disappeared. Now same problem and I am 100% sure battery is good. Alternator output is as it should be. I have cleaned D4 and checked two ground wires one bolted to ECU another to the body next to the battery.

Was checking for error codes using Multiscan and all was clear (I was expecting some and was very surprised). Car is Stilo 1.6 2004.

Question is how can I check alternator connections and how do I find other ground wires? Or maybe any other suggestions?

im not too sure about the 1.6, but I would put into your mind ECU fault.

Ok, with that in mind, try ADDING a ground wire to diagnose. You can move it around from a ground point in the engine bay to whatever you need to test.

Next I would double check the starter cable (negative from battery) is in good condition and tight.

to check the alternator you need a multimeter - though It sounds like you have already done this, in which case disconnect the battery and then disconnect the cables from the alternator and clean up/refit/inspect.

Hey, spend whole Sunday under the bonnet and still same thing alternator failure and loose connection...

I was reading around and some people suggest to change crankshaft sensor, however as I understand if my crankshaft sensor is faulty I would have an error code... Any ideas?

Is it worth checking alternator with the specialist? Or they will measure output voltage only?

My problem symptoms for those who may experienced it in a past and know possible solution are:

In the morning I usually got alternator failure & loose connection 2-3 times in first 5 min, and after that for an hour all fine, and after an hour or so got same problem for few times again.. :yuck:

as far as i know crank sensors don't throw faults... even so if you think it might be this they're <£20.

i cant comment either way on this as ive never had or remember a successfull solution but for <£20 its gotta be worth a punt...right?

Is it easy to replace crankshaft sensor? Is it possible to do it out on the street with the basic tools? Or this is trip to the local mechanic?

Hello, I had the same problems, cutting out with the same errors: alternator failure and loose connection.
My solution was cleaning the T9 relay (its connections) and put it back after that.
Also I cleaned all the fuses and realays from the fusebox near the battery.

Hope it works!

Hm.. good, does anybody know how to test this T9 relay to make shure it is wotking properly?

Or maybe I can swope around with any other to check? If yes with relay will be better to swap?

Relay T9 on the 1.6 engine is for the fuel pump. You could substitute it with the heater fan relay T8 for test purposes. Both are 30 Amp relays.

Why do you think it was particularly T9?

Well from what I have read from the forum is that through T9 runs the electric circuit for the fuel pump and another thing that I can't remember right now, which, when the electric connection is poor or faulty throw these errors.
Also, during a long road in which my car stopped 3 times because of this I was desperate because my car wasn't starting. At that time I remembered something about the T9 relay so
first I took it out and cleand its connections with sandpaper and alcohol and put it back. No problems after.

After that, to make sure that it will not happen again, when I arrived home I took apart the fusebox and cleaned all the fuses and relays and tighten up the metal clips in the fusebox that are holding all the relays and fuses.
This was done 1,2 months ago and since then no problem.
