Hello
I have just bought a 1984 Fait Ducato 2l petrol high top camper.
Its a nice holdsworth Conversion
The big question is should I sell it at a profit or keep it and sell my trusty but tatty 1972 Bedford CF camper thats good but rusty
Also what common problems do they suffer from?
The windscreen surround is full of filler and the dip stick tube has snaped were it sticks in to the block

sell the Bedford CF and convert the ducato to diesel or lpg
Thanks
LPG would be good but to be honest the Bedford only did 16mpg but it only went to local classic shows and camp sites 1 hour away.
The thing that draws me to the Ducato is
1 it has a bog, well a wardrobe with a porta potty, so it can be used as a changing room at the beach.
2 it should do 70, the CF isnt happy over 50 and you need ear plugs.
3 The Ducato has a fridge
4 The Ducato has a 5 speed box.

Is the broken dipstick tube common? it looks easy enough to fix?
There is a load of filler around the screen were it meets the bonnet, but I could fix this.
I assume bits as straightforward to get?
Its a D reg petrol so what model is it?

i am not sure if they are common problems, the forum has an r reg 2.8 diesel minibus for doing the shows in, that will go to 100 on the speedo on a private road ;)
only problem we have had is rust, mainly because if was left off road and neglected for a few years before the forum got it

They're good trucks, gear linkage gets sloppy, and the engine is prone to wear on the block from the thrust bearing, and good blocks are very rare.
Wet lined, head gaskets go occasionally, and spares are getting harder to obtain.
Diesel is good, and can be fitted to the van.

Just read your other post, you know about the linkage already.
There is a fix, it's a new linkage kit but expensive. Look on motorhome forums, it's often mentioned.

I was thinking of bodging the linkage, I did see an Oring that claims if you fit it to the gear box shaft it improves it, but I can see the play in the linkage so will fix that first.
I am on a very tight budget as I have to sell my Classic 1972 Bedford camper to finance the purchase
