Yeah. I'd go for a semi-synthetic. Halfords own brand is good (especially with a trade card) and they seem to like the Lucas stuff that many of the smaller factors are doing now.

I must get myself a trade card.
i remember someone saying that a different weight oil is better in the MPI engine... anyone know what oil that was. i never found out
Nah, they're mechanically identical to the SPIs -- 15/40 is fine, semi synth unless you've really extracted the max from them.
The 899s are probably pickier than the others due to the hydraulic tappets.

Tesco have 4 litres of there own brand 'part synthetic' 10w 40 oil for £16. I might give that a go.
That's actually about the ame price as the ones I mentioned (without the trade card). Should be fine, though.
Do you know if you can buy the oil filter straight from the shelf at halfords for a sei shuie or will they have to order 1 in , many thanks.

im my turbo sei i run 10/40 and in normal sei i run 15/50
Off the shelf for the filter -- if buying from a factor, tell them you want the late one: the SPI cars use a longer one.
Why? I'd do it t'other way round (and use fully synth in the tub).

I went for 5 litres of Mobil Super S 10w 40 for £18.60 from Halfords.
