help please, we have just had a diagnostic done on the car and the garage said that the clutch was slipping. new clutch fitted 8 months ago. got the guy who fitted it out and he said that oil was getting into the clutch from the gearbox and we would probably need a new gear box, concerned as to costs as car would need to go away and also due to make a long distant journey in easter weeks and unsure if car will survive, we have a 53 stilo dynamic multiwagon 1.6. thanks for any advise as what to do thanks:(

It's unlikely to need a new gearbox just for an oil leak unless the gearbox casing is cracked. There's a replaceable oil seal around the gearbox input shaft that may be leaking. The gearbox would need to be removed to replace the oil seal.

I have some leaking around both shafts, and it has been doing it for several years. Works like a dream. :D

:yeahthat: yep thats the one..(y)

Gearbox out and replace the seal..new clutch plate again if oil has contaminated..pressure plate will be OK..just clean it off and refit..

Though I presume you've already fixed/had it looked at, I too had a slipping clutch a year ago - thought it was worn (as I had bought it a couple of months earlier).

Anywhoo my clutch plate was caked in oil, but it wasn't from the gearbox - indeed all the seals were great. (This is after 80k) The oil was coming from the crank case via the nuts that hold the flywheel to the crankshaft because FIAT drill the threads into the crank all the way through. Take them off (I believe it was 15dNm tightness when it comes to tightening) but when you put the back, coat them in a high quality glue. Preferably a two part glue that starts to go tacky immediately.

Been perfect since.
