Hi,

New to the forum :)

Got a 2013 500L pop, 1.4 95hp. believe this has the engine 843A1000

Noticed an oil burning smell. took a look underneath and sump had oil on it and oil was getting onto the exhaust. cleaned it up and took a look around but couldnt see anything obvious. Took the coils out and the spark plug wells had some oil in them also.

Im thinking this is rocker cover gasket.

I cant seem to find a clear indication of the complexity of replacing the rocker cover gasket. Im quite spanner handy and pretty certain this should just be a remove anchillaries where needed and undo roker cover and replace, but my motor factors have asked the question of 'its not a cambelt off job is it'? Its not is it?

Any other culprits it could be? The car did have a cambelt change before we purchased it but i dont think that would have disturbed anything rocker cover related?

thanks for any answers

Cheers

Neill

I saw a clever BMW tech on a video take a sprayer out of a bottle like Windex and put the sprayer suction tube tip into the spark plug hole and he squeezed the trigger repeatedly until he drained all the oil out into a rag. Because the tip of the suction tube is small enough to go around the spark plug and take out all the oil there’s less oil at the bottom of the hole when you finally remove the spark plug. I hope this helps you guys.
