hi all
just a query about the oil filter cap....was just wondering what socket size is needed to get at the filter on my 2013 qubo trekking...i have watched a few videos on youtube and it mentioned a 27mm socket but that is to small ...i have purchased a 36mm socket but thats to big...any suggestions would be most helpful...thanks in advance

30 and 32 are the common AF metric sizes..(y)

not too sure,
maybe look in the GUIDES for oil cannister removal,
or SEARCH ebay/ etc for a specific tool advert;)

Did mine recently, it's 32mm on my 1.3 MJ 2012. Makes quite a mess when you open it.
Don't forget you'll need to reset the service notifier AND the oil degradation counter.

Thanks for all the replays ....I did measure the cap but I had it at 30mm and could not find one at that size so got the nearest which is 32mm....so is there other kit you need to extinguish that light and the oil degradation

Where are you? Can reset for you if you get to Bury St Edmunds or into Norfolk. The drain plug socket size won't be in an average socket set either get a cheap oil plug set from somewhere. I found it was an easy job with front wheels on ramps.

just been looking up your suggestion about a multiecuscan and they all say it has to be a windows computer and i have a mac any way round that without it costing more than just going to the garage to let them do it....have already bought oil, filter, socket, sump plug hex key

would fault readers do the same trick but not be able to eliminate the lights or are ther ones that do that as well

Hi,
If your car has a DPF then a standard code reader (and most non-fiat specific garage systems) won't do the job. They will put out the light on the dashboard but the engine ECU will think the oil is old and eventually stop re-generating the DPF. I can do it for you if you are near Cambridge. If you get MES and a USB ELM 327 interface to do it yourself any old laptop running Windows XP or later will do the trick, try ebay or even freecycle for a cheap or free old laptop. If you do your own work it will soon pay for itself.

Make sure you have the correct sump plug key, mine was not a hex kit it was a torx key, if you use a hex key and it rounds off the torx socket in the sump plug, you are potentially in a world of hurt!

Also there are different filters on a qubo, at least 3, and the only way I found out which was the correct one was after I had drained all the oil and took the old one out.......trip back to europarts in my mates car! ( and I'd ordered it by the car registration,)

As for resetting the oil degradation / service indicator I use multiecuscan as I found other methods too expensive and most garages ( not all I hasten to add ) will not reset it without them actually doing the work? As for those that will, it's up to them to price up the job........

Hope this helps

Ken

If your near Kings Lynn, Norfolk I can reset it if you want!

Hi all thanks for all the helpful information .....I am going to do the oil change tomorrow(Thursday)my daughter has a flat bit in front of the house as I have not so as I can put the car on ramps ....let me do a check list ..tarpoline, a can to catch the oil, ramps, oil filter socket, oil filter, oil ,hex and other various sockets for the sump plug, funnel, and spanners, to take of the sump guard...any one got the lone off a trailer....glad I can fold the seats up.....will keep you posted

Hi again it was not as bad as I thought it would be......thanks for the info about the sump plug torx key and the size of the oil filter socket...thought that I had really tightened the sump plug but had to put it back on the ramp to give it an extra tweek as it was still weeping...also I thought the oil filter screwed into the housing but all you need is to give it a tap to seat it and another good idea l had from a friend was to take a measuring jug.....pour the oil in there first and not rely on the window at the side of the can(I had a litre jug) no need to take the sump guard of as once you can get underneath there is a whole in it to get to the sump plug.....will be back for more info when it comes to the fuel filter replacement as its due its first mot in about July

Fuel filter is easy enough as the whole thing is replaced. There are quick release fittings on the pipes and the water switch transfers from old to new. It is a Chinese puzzle to get it out from behind the engine though.

I have seen where the fuel filter is and it seems that you need small hands and small tools as well...in the service schedule in the hand book it says it does not need to be changed till 70,000 kilometres so I will need to work out if 30,000 miles equals it

Just worked it out and it's 43,000 miles so another year to go....but I think an air filter is due and I don't need any help with that thanks

Just out of interest, how did you manage to get the service reset and more importantly the oil degradation reset.... Garage or multiscan?

Still waiting for the light to come on....previously I have had the oil and filter change done at a garage so maybe it came on when they had it but I have never seen it on.....it's done 30,000 so do you think it should have come on by now

Hi,
Still don't know what engine is in your car, but again, if it's a diesel with DPF there is no service light for that, just the failure one when you have stuffed up the DPF with soot

.
You need Multiecuscan or a Fiat savvy garage to reset this. An interface is about £15, MES €50 (~£30) and a laptop less than £50 (something like a Dell lattitude D420 but anything with windows XP or later and a USB port will do)
or free on Freecycle So similar cost to a couple of reads and reset from a main dealer.

P.S. Just had a look on ebay and you can get a Dell with battery and charger for £35 inc post item 281966261501. You would have to install windows from a USB stick or external CD-ROM (known weak point on these machines) but it has a COA.
