i don't think the Abarth has an oil level sensor does it? Only a pressure gauge and a temperature gauge on the MFD...

Am I wrong?

You should definitely be able to see some oil on the dipstick though between the max and min marks (the two ends of the knurled bit)... knowing how close you are to the max and min is a different matter. The dipstick is next to useless.

A few things to be aware of

BEWARE No 1
Never rely on the dash guage to tell you when it needs oil, check your oil every week. One Abarth owner here recently didn't- result blown engine- his words "Won't do that again"

BEWARE No.2
"to my knowledge there should be a dark thin layer showing on there"
Oil in stilos (apart from diesels) is very clear looking, almost like water so it doesn't look like there's any on the dipstick and a number of stilo owners have poured more and more oil in without realising what's happening- result blown engine. Their words "Won't do that again"

BEWARE NO. 3
Some Abarths absolutely drink oil. Fiat acceptable limits for oil consumption are staggering so it needs very regular checking

BEWARE No. 4
Only ever put no more than 1/2 litre in at a time when topping up and give it time to drain to the bottom of the engine

Can't see oil on the dipstick? Use a kitchen towel to wipe the dipstick throughly then after you've dipped it again, use a clean corner of the towel and just run it down the stick, when you hit oil BINGO! Never rely on dash gauges otherwise "There will be blood" - real life is scarier than the movies

Listen carefully I vill say zis only vunce..I hate the abarth it will never live upto the sporting name that fiat gave it..its a joke of a car not worth owning and to troublesome to run..when will you lot get it into your heads the only good point the car has is its good looks and you can own any of the other models with far less problems and still look cool ..while the owners of the 1.2/4/6/8 and jtd will have relatively trouble free motoring yours will spend more time in the garage getting repaired and costing you a fortune to keep on the road..happy motoring suckers..:nerner:

Fair enough. I still love mine and I love the engine and all of the goodies that come with the Abarth as standard... plus the low price because of the lack of demand! (y) It really does suit me because of my low annual mileage...

I have to agree with you about the Abarth name being put on the car... not really fitting ad I'm sure he turned in his grave when it was released. Now i am looking forward to the 500 Abarth though... 133hp wrapped up in a sexy little body and not a Fiat badge in sight... scorpions everywhere... tasty :D

As above, but the oil after a change is so clear in the Panda that I have to run my fingers down the dipstick to see when I hit oil. Just wear glove for H+S reasons if doing my method. After a few thousand miles though you can begin to see the oil on the stick as it slow gets darker before another change.

Jon.
