hiya im going to do an oil change on my bravo 1.4 12v as it was supposedly last changed 5months ago by a cowboy garage when it was sent in for spray bar to be cleaned.

oil looks black so im gunna change it but was wondering whether or not to use a flush or not as iv received mixed results from friends etc.

gunna change oil and filter and clean out my induction kit but is a flush wise or are there better things to spend my hard earned money on?

help appreciated:worship:

A flush is not a bad idea in general (once in a while), an alternative is to do a quick oil change (maybe leave the filter in) with a cheap diesel engine oil (10-40) - these have more detergents than petrol oils and if you run this for 1000 miles or so it should give the engine a good clean.

Then do the proper oil change - park on a slight slope of jack the car a bit so the drain plug is at the lowest point. Then leave it to drain for literally hours so that the last drops come out of the sump pan.

As regards the proper oil to use, good quality 10-40 semi synthetic (not rip-off Castrol or Halfords) from a motor factor - I like Morris, they do 2 standards of semi-synthetic. But if you look on Shop4Parts.co.uk they recommend a particular (lighter) Selenia oil for this engine, they can also send you a genuine Fiat oil filter.
