Me again. (sorry).
Periodically I smell burning oil in the cab while driving. The other day at the lights I noticed a small amount of blue smoke rising from around the bonnet. Pulling over I traced the source to the back of the engine. I was unable to see where exactly. The problem only happens periodically but it seems to be getting worse. The smoke stops as soon as the engine turns off.
Any ideas? I was wondering if this might be a common problem?
Thanks in advance.

Hi

A tricky one to diagnose without seeing it. Definitely not normal.

One thing I can think of is that a fume breather hose is leaking or has become disconnected. When you are bowling along the air currents will disperse any leaking fumes, but when you stop they will build up under the bonnet. Have a look and feel around behind the block.

Another possibility is that oil is dripping from somewhere down onto the hot exhaust manifold, where it will instantly turn into smoke. It doesn't take very much; anyone who has started up an engine which has been worked on may have seen the alarming amount of smoke that can result for a minute or two from just a few oily hand prints on the exhaust pipework.

Let us know what you find

Id be thinking valve cover leak dripping onto exhaust manifold or egr cooler leak w.g. split stainless flexi.
