I finally got the gearbox out of the car and after degreasing the skin off my right hand and healed (finally!)..I am ready to fix the minor oil leaks. I ordered oil boots and a transmission gasket set from Mr. Fiat. The new boots have a plastic bushing in them where the old ones have a metal bushing in them. Should I use the plastic bushing that came with the new boots or try to re-use the old metal ones? The bushing I speak of has grooves in it.

I'm also thinking of replaceing the large oil seal o-ring that I believe I've seen referenced as an 'output shaft o-ring'. Is any kind of sealant recommended for that o-ring or just lube it lightly with some gearbox oil?

Thanks!

To help others that may have a similar question...here is what I was told:

Phil,

These are part of the oil boot that goes over the bearing housing ?

From memory, my new ones were also plastic inside the rubber. They would have been on the car a couple of years now and I have no leaks, so I guess they are working OK. If the metal ones are reusable, you could try them again but I must admit that you will likely get a better fit with the new ones.
