I saw a similar thread but it appears to be asleep for the last 2 years so I decided to start a new one. I hope I m not breaking too many rules here.

I m having a problem in my Palio Stile 1.2. The odometer and trip meter have stopped completely. I think they stopped when i tried to reset the trip meter at a fuel station. The speedometer needle works fine but the mechanical wheels of the odometer and trip meter have decided to stop there and stare at me.

The Tata Service people say that we have to replace the whole assembly Price: Rs.16k... :bang:
After a lot of thought I finally decided to open it all up and look for 'loose connections' or other similar causes for this failure.
Well no luck there. Now I am gonna try and look for dry solder on the circuit board. Anybody has any opinions I would be glad to listen.
I have taken pics throughout the process and here are some if anyone wants to see.

I am not able to make much from the photographs.
May be it looks complicated for me to understand.
Trip meter's plastic knob is connected to a worm wheel which is also a plastic part.

It may not cost more than 300 rupees despite channel margins.Culprit could be this part.

There used to be one electrician who could clearly identify this problem either at Green tracks or Prerana Hosur Road.

Mr Babu or Satish at prerana Hosur could help you if you are from bengaluru.

Ask Local TASS once more if you feel this is the problem.
I wish you success

Thanks for the response guys! Im from Goa, India so Im gonna have to look at some of the scrapped car at Kurla, Mumbai. I have bought stuff from there before but it just the tedious part of travelling there. Wastes a whole day and a half.

Kava Auto ships spare parts to your doorstep IIRC - do give a call and check.

Edit: glad that you got in touch with Team BHP - hope you are ready to send it across to TVM and get it repaired by the person refered by clevermax :)

take care.

HI ,
Even I have the same problem.
Odometer / Trip meter not working, but speedometer working.
I stay at Bangalore.
It would be great if some one has a solution..
bye

Odometer repair is an option - get in touch with Vipul. Else Authorised Service Center will simply replace with a new one @ 14K INR

I have Palio Stile 1.1 SLX , purchased as a 2nd hand (only 7600 kMts done) in Nov 2010 from Vasai, Thane. I too suffered exactly the same problem as you, when I was leaving for my native place on 29th Aug 2011 from Panvel to Savantwadi. Filled the fuel tank to the brink (47lts) and pressed the trip-meter in order to monitor average. The speedo is fine but the odo got stuck immediately (8787 kMts). I am Palio User Group member but unable to meet a suitable solution. I have most of the necessary equipments to dislodge the console from dashboard but I dare not. would be obliged if you suggest. Thanks.
