Hi,

I have a 2000 Barch with 25000 kms on the clock. If driving normally at 2500-3000 revs and then letting go of the accelerator pedal (as when stopping for a red light), I can hear some piece of metal rattle in the engine bay. It sounds suspiciously like a loose heat shield or similar (flimsy metal sound). It is NOT the "diesel problem", mind you.

Any ideas?

a had a same problem... how to describe in Ang..

So this is a alu part (protection) for an engine... Its position is in front of engine... This part was probably "broken", "cracked" becaus of shaking and stf. I guess. So when you are loosin aceleration, the vibes of this broken part make noises...like ccccczzzzzzzrrrrrttrrrr haha. I bought a new part :D

You are right. (y) I checked the heat shield which is mounted on the front side of the engine. Tapping it lightly produced a rattling resonating sound. From the top side, I could get my hand to the underside of the flimsy metal and bend the lower part a bit - that helped!

See an article on the subject on http://www.barchetta-lexikon.de/?artikel=h004

Thanks again

Thomas
