bought a cheap 2000 multipla 1.6 16v that is running very rough, with little power. I am doing a service as it is in desperate need of some attention. Tried to use a OBD2 scan on it, to see what fault codes I might find but the reader says the adapter is not talking to the ECU?

using Vgate Scan and Torque pro software.

I have read a number of posts but can't seem to see if there is a clear answer about whether the car is OBD2 compliant or not. the car has a magnetti merreli ECU

Thanks

Protocol is KW(P?)2000 which worked on my 52 and 55 plate multi's.

Pete123 will be along shortly as he's more familiar with 1.6 Multi's but lambda sensor is a good bet for starters.

Not obd2 compliant cables r available on eBay cheap if u don't have one do u have any sort of idea why it would be down on power and have u changed any thing yet

Hi Pete and Momoe

So far I have just done HT leads and plugs as they looked like they were originals. I have tried 2 different scanners but no luck with codes - may have to shell out to local garage to read it! one is a bluetooth device which gives a read out of not being ELM327 compliant. The other just says there is a link error even though it does scan for KWP 2000.

I have noticed a lot of posts about injectors and so perhaps I will have a look at them see if the look like there working ok. What do you reckon?

Throttle position sensor, (TPS) is a good start, think this is on or in the throttle body on a 1.6.
A good clean can sort this out.

Lambda (O2) sensor is also a favourite, this monitors the oxygen in the exhaust and the ECU uses this information to keep the mixture within defined parameters.
Don't think there's an easy way of determining if it's faulty or not, MultiEcuScan would help, at least you could read live values from the sensor and cross reference them against known good values.

I have ordered a new scanner lead after looking at the multiecuscan site so will wait for that to arrive it will hopefully shed some light on my problem. Given up until it arrives and I can read the ecu - full of cold and can't concentrate on a thing.

Cheers for all the help (y)

Tps sensor car be ruled out by spraying a bit of wd40 down the carb if any things there I put a new one on with no luck if u wanna cheap diag kit look at my other thread 20quid all in aint bad

Will try WD40 after all it won't do any harm and thanks for the pointer on the diag kit have ordered one exactly like the one in your post

Cheers
Deej

Glad to hear any things worth ago so im guessing if ur diag kit is like the one I've posted it's ok for use as my old one was nothing like that was a all in 1 lead

Eventually got the reader to work thanks to installing software with the help of this post on Multiecuscan site - VAG KKL *** No ECU Response *** FIX Here. The joy of window 7 trying to be too clever!

And injectors in 1 and 4 both reporting faults so I guess I know what to do (y)

Thanks Pete and MoMoe

Hi Deej. Im getting the same "no ecu response" message from my kkl lead and my dads 2000 multipla. How did you get it to work?

I know the lead works fine as ive used it for ABS and Airbag on the multipla and used it for the ECU on a VW Polo.

BTW im using Vista and latest FTDI drivers from their site

Hi Mark

Does your KKL lead have an adapter or switches - mine came with 3 different adapters. and has a different lead for different function. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271123621870?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
That could be your problem.

The other thing is to find a way to turn the "latency timer" down on your laptop - pages 3-5 in the multiecuscan user guide.

After having loads of grief I basically followed the FTDI Device Drivers instructions for windows 7 to the letter - turning of just about everything on the laptop - wifi, all other programs etc..... made sure I installed the driver software twice which seemed a bit daft at first but then I realised why. The FTDI driver has to work for a USB serial converter and for a USB serial port, not that I know what the difference is but it worked.

As I said follow the instructions really carefully and it should work.

Good luck :)
