agree with that 100%

its discusting and nobody can justyfy such an incredable wage for that job at all, i had to train for 5 years before i was ven aloud a pay rise that cant even rival that, nanybody who says that isnt discusting is just ignorent our soldiers and nurses are doing a far more vital roll to the country and get **** on but these guys think that they can do this at a time where petrol is at stupid rates, maybe if they slashed there wages in half the petrol price might drop a few pence.

just my oppiniun on an open free forum as im been told so many times when the digs fly my way.

mick

And teachers got 2.5% over 2 years, my gas and electric charges have taken up any pay rise I get.

the fuel bills are set to raise 40% this year alone, on news night last night they couldnt get a straight answer out of the labour rep as all he was saying was we face a tough time, i am pretty sure he wont face any tuff times in his bill free enviroment, i think its discusting for them to tell people who earn £13k to try and budget better, they dont earn enough, yet these god dam truckers have just took a 14% rise, my girlfriend was given an extra 27p an hour on a 18hour a week job what sort of a rise is that? i think its discusting how were sh1tting on the poor at a time where the goverment should be doing all it can to make sure everybodies standad of living is adiquite through these tough times.

where do i go to collect my HGV and hazardous goods license?

was thinking the same, if i didnt have epilepsy id apply for my type 1 too lol stuff been a doctor lol lorry driving is where the money is lol.

i'd apply for my class 1 if i didnt have to do every other goods vehicle test first (you do have to) and had passed my hazardous goods test/driving course basically spending 3 years before i was allowed to do anything resembling driving a tanker...

Meh, maybe not

I've got a degree, but it'll be another 10 or so years before i can hope for 44k or more!

I'm a keen driver, got my car and bike license, think its time i moved up to HGV driving, lol. Or trains! Thats even easier cause they dont have to steer them! and they get 30k+ after training!

While I agree 14% is shocking in our current economic climate I do think fuel tanker drivers have earned a good wage. Afterall if they crash and the load ignites it is good night Las Vegas.
If everyone was getting 10-15% pay increases then this would be little more than average.
Perhaps this pay rise is more in line with what we should all be getting to cater for the increase in living costs etc and we are somewhat bitter because non of us, me included have a hope of matching it.
I also disagree that they are not important to the nation and that you cannot use the comparison against medical staff or the services. Shell is a massive multinational conglomorate that is probably as powerful as the government but in different ways. If they stopped serving fuel to this country we'd soon see a massive national crisis after less than a month.
Just my POV - Tough tits if it offends :)

yep, most experienced hgv drivers now are on a fair amount of cash. This was due to a shortage in drivers in the last 2 years, now however there has been a drop off in pay due to cheaper foreign drivers and a lack of profitablity in the industry

Shoulda got into it a couple of years ago ;)

Working for a big name usually helps!

The employers should have sacked 'em. I would have done their job for £31k. I earn a small fraction of £31k a year. How many tankers have blown up in the last 20 yrs? I can't remember one, maybe buncefield or maybe not but not half a dangerous job as serving in Iraq or Afganistan. Those drivers a greedy SoBs.

Maybe the reason you can't remember a fuel tanker blowing-up in the last 20 years is because the drivers are professionals who've had years of verified and tested training to do a skilled job of keeping their cargo and the public on the highway safe
- despite all the other idiots on the road.

You could'nt do the job for 31K, 3K or even 300K unless you'd also been properly trained/had enough experience.

see what you've done ;)

I don't think so. Make sure you're behind me in the queue for their jobs.

To get in that queue I'd have to be even better qualified than the HGV licence I have now

- and be happy to take a pay cut....
