im planning on networking my printer so that i can connect two computers to it. whats the best way to do this?

connect the printer to one coomputer and then go to control panel and then printers and faxes devices then select your printer, right click and go properties, click the sharing tab then choose share this device on the network

haha ohh ok, well when u link two computers it makes a local network doesnt it?

so you install the printer on one of the computers and then follow my instreuctions and share it on your network.

then on the other computer that is linked you find the printer and instal it from a newwork place and that should find it and thats that.

to make a local network you have to connect the two computers together via a rj54 cat5 newtowk cable .. and if you dont have a router or hub you will need a crossover cable.

then once you have followed the onscreen instructions you then do it to the other computer so they then talk to eachother and thats that

sorry writing this a bit quick as i have to go :p

ok. two computers. both connect to the internet via a router. do i have to connect the computers directly to be able to share a printer or can it be done through the router. if yes then i am having problems....!

it can be done thru a router, i've got a laserjet 5 with a network card in it and u can assign an ip address to the printer and set up windows printer settings to use it. dunno about other models though, this is a fairly business orientated printer

if you have a router just connect the computers to the router and you should be able to share the printer that way
