HI

I'm after a bit of advice on insurance! I run my own business and therefore have to have a van. I also have two personal cars.

I was wondering if there is an insurance that I could get that would allow me to insure all cars together including the van for business use(and possibly the cars) and possibly also allow me to drive any other vehicle.

For convenience I would like to add my dad and my 'voluntary' secretary onto the policy to allow them to drive as well.

As I am only 19, (20 in april) my combined insurance renewal is £4,900........!!

Does anyone know what the best type of policy there is available for me?

My only concern about fleet insurance is that if i add the p[ersonal cars onto it do i havt to pay company car tax?

Sorry for the long post!!

You will be lucky to find the type of insurance you're after to cover drivers under 25 let alone under 21.
;)

Also, I think the "any vehicle" type is restricted to not just trade but motor trade only and is also very expensive. I know out company insurance covers al the company vehicles for any driver over 21 with Directors permission.

Age has always been a big problem with my business!!!

I remember my cousin insuring a ford rs cosworth when he was about 19 under his dad's fleet insurance (i think), he was also insured to drive any other vehicle. I'll try giving him a call in the morning and ask how he did it.

Your vehicle types would easily come under a Minifleet policy, as they are varied (2 cars and a van).

Not all insurers will penalise you for your age handicap, so it would be best to have a look around.

Some insurers don't take on "new ventures" so if you've been trading less than 2-3 years, some might not want to insure.

Most motor certificates issued by commercial vehicle insurers do advise anyone with your permission can drive with the vehicle - without the need to be specifically named - but some insurers are taking a firmer stance, and would prefer them to be employees of the company, though I don't know how well this is generally enforced.

My suggestion would be to go through a broker, who will do the dogwork for you.

Lastly, the business you do has an effect on the level of insurance available also, so just keep that in mind ie. builder, photographer, night-burglar etc :)

Hope this helps somewhat, and apologies for the late response.

Do you work for nu trade insurance loosecannon?

Do you know a good insurance broker that won't penalise me?
My other problem is a lack of ncd. I have never had an accident but not had a policy in my name for a full year yet.

My next problem! The fecking Low emission zone!!! I'm now going to have to buy a newer van as big vans produced b4 jan 2001 are non compliant and liable for a £100 pd charge! Would anybody else like to suck out the rest of my money?!

@ rascal, If you find some, can we split it? lol

Full years NCD is not required on the M/fleet policies, as they only serve to illustrate an idea of the level of experience.

Going through a broker could be the best way to deal with your "situation". What is your business postcode? I could possibly suggest a couple around your area, on a personal basis. It's always best to be able to go in an have a word face to face :)

I'm in SW2. My business is a building company but I do actually dabble in part time motor trade.

I went into my local broker but they won't quote because of my age.

and the fact that you have no name :)

Broker name on policy sir?
You "Anonymous"
Broker sorry sir we can not insure you....

Marea, why settle for less

Whenever I go to Domino's Pizza they always ask for my name and I use Joe Bloggs - They always laugh, and I keep a straight face and say "What's so funny about my name? Do you wanna see my ID?"

LOL :)
