Not for the Squeamish!

 Have any of you uno owners checked under the carpet in the boot area of your car? This is wot I found when I did, and believe me I thought my car would never see the road again.

Re: Not for the Squeamish!

Its a 1990 on a G plate. The first of the Mk2's. I think fiat had a problem with undersealing that year on turbo models! My sis has a uno 45s and the car's bodywork is immaculate! Same year as mine...odd. If only Fiat had build quality like the Germans, they would be a market leader.

Peterg: I bought the panels from a Fiat dealer, £45 each. Got a welder to fix them in place for around £70.

Nice job!

My Uno Turbo had rust on one side only. I discovered it when the carpet 'crunched' under my hand as I installed a speaker. Then I looked in the wheelarch and the sprayed-on coating was falling off in sheets.

I got it fixed effectively for free, since the car had a new WOF (MoT equiv.) when I bought it, and it shouldn't have had, so I claimed reimbursment for the repair, and got it!

Re: Not for the Squeamish!

i wonder why it it the lower spec models are structurally so much better? my first uno was a 45s, a week after i bought it i got a jet hose and cleaned all the years of accumulated crap out of everywhere, pulled up the carpets and checked the lot, and it was immaculate, not a spot of rust anywhere, and that was a c-plate! same story with the 3 70sx's i've owned, it's almost as if fiat had something against the turbo!

btw the reality was far worse then the pictures suggest, i discovered the problem when i could hear a clunking noise from the back, when i pulled up the carpet i found what you see above, the top of the turret waving about, needless to say was not very happy

When I rang up Fiat I asked for rear inner wheel arch that supports the strut. If i can find the receipt I will post exact part number.

P.s. be prepared for hard labour, as the arch is spot welded all the way round, and is sealed with a special joint sealant! The spot welds need to be drilled out. Then the arch needs to be smacked out with a club hammer. Use a crow bar the lift the arch away from body and scrape away that sealant.

You must drain fuel from tank before welding and have a fire extingisher at hand.

I should of taken pics of when we changed the turbo on my uno...that was another nightmare.
