Norton help

no its not me wouldnt touch norton with a barge pole!

my gf has norton on her PC and its slowing it down to the pace of a snail! now when its booting ive removed all unwanted programs from the boot registry so its sped up but norton is still doing its full scan off all processes and files. how can i stop it doing this? i had a quick look through the management centre and cant find anything. but i know you can disable it! help!

uninstall its as simple as that, get cw shredder, ad-aware, spybot, avg anti spware and anti virus run in sequence fully updated every week or so job down and not as intrusive as norton plus more user friendly.

perhaps in the options>antivirus>advanced options>scan floppy fro viruses on boot is enabled?

ah i saw that but didnt realise it meant the hard drives! "floppy" is misleading

Yeah i would remove it, what year is the Norton 2006 or 2007? It slowed down my computer big time so i went with AVG Security 7.5 does it all and is alot quicker!

shes had it over a year so either 2005 or 2006 im guessing! came free with her laptop so her step dad put it on. baaaaaaaaad idea!

Norton is a resource hog anyway, although people with the latest Dual Core machines may not notice this so much.

Personally, I use NOD32 as an antivirus, and Outpost as a software firewall, router as my hardware firewall.

Spyware - I run Spyware Doctor, although recently been trying out the Windows Defender software, free from M$.

So basically, get shot of it
