Non-Starter

I've got a Brava 1.2 SX 80 which is having troubles starting. Originally it was just first thing in the morning but it's started to do some odd stuff.

Sometimes it starts first time, others it takes up to five times. Engine turns over most times, but at others it sounds like its struggling to turn over.

A couple of times its just done nothing at all when the key is turned, dash lights come on, key code lights and goes off, but nothing else from the turn of the key, no starter motor, no engine turning. Its all a bit wierd.

Been lucky so far as I've never been stranded anywhere but I'd really like it fixed before my luck runs out.

Had a new starter motor back in September, and a new battery in December.

Any suggestions most welcome?

Bad earth? might be worth checking all the major electrical wires at the points they connect to things.

I too would suggest bad battery connections and earth, especially engine to body connections, starter motor?

If in some cases it wont turn, then the starter motor is not working fine. Check the main fuses under the bonnet, measure the voltage on the battery, and like said before, check the main earth on the gearbox.

Also, does the key barrel push the key back a bit when you turn the key ?

prob a duff earth, next time it does this, if you have some jump leads put one fron your earth to your gearbox if it starts okay tehn prob your earth strap is duff, if not i would put money on it being your starter

Thanks guys, I've tightened everything I can see, and checked fuses, battery etc. All seems good.

Tried it 3 times after I did that and it started first time every time. Only problem is that it was intermittent before so I guess that I'll have to give it a day or so before I can be confident that its sorted.
