noisy front end!!

another question my 1.6 bravo is making a clunking noise the front drivers side. I have had this checked by a mechanic and they have been unable to find anything wrong with this. It's an intermitant fault rather than permenant and can sometimes sound as if something is hitting the vehicle and can be felt under the pedals when driving.. Has anyone got any suggestions on what this may be??
