I have a 1.9 Croma 2006 with 100k on the clock. When I took her to get her MOT done (she passed thankfully), the inspector said that the engine sounded very noisy. Me being totally unmechanical I hadnt noticed but took her to my mechanic to have him look at it. Now she has been regularly service and had her timing belt changed at around 70k. He looked at it and stuck a stethascope on her and agreed that she was very noisy coming from the timing belt area.

Not wanting to risk it going I had him have a look at it. He discovered that a "tensioner"??? had gone and he changed that, the timing belt and the water pump which he said was on the way out. Started he up and she did sound a bit healthier.

That was about two weeks ago. Over the last week however the engine does seem very noisy again. I dont seem to notice it as much at speed but that may just be my imagination. Another very sporadic problem I have had is that very occaisionally from start there is a lag in acceleration which dissappear quickly but will occaisionally as I said crop up every so often.

Trying to find an answer before I bring her back to the mechanic to charge me more money (which i can ill afford) i did a search on this an other forums and there is a suggestion that the fuel injectors may be a possible cause of some problems. Is it likely or possible that this could be the cause of one or the other in my case? If so does anyone know can these injector be bought second hand on ebay and if so what should i be searching for. I dont really want to pay Fiat prices for these at the moment as i am sure they will sting me badly.

It is usual to change the water pump when doing a cam belt, as there have been a number of seized pumps , look up alfaowner.com.
They don't usually give a warning though. Fiat/Alfa dealers often don't even know this.
Is it possibly cam followers? A bit difficult to know.
