Oh you poor thing, just as you'd got the clutch fixed.
If the lever does not stay up when you let go, the ratchet inside the lever is worn, or not engaging properly.
If worn, whole lever needs replacing. I've tried to look on ePER, but it is not willing to play right now.
Is the button popping out fully? Sometimes it can stick inside the grip, so the ratchet pawl does not engage with the teeth properly.
Do you normally lift the lever without pressing the button, or do you press button, lift lever and release button? The first method will wear the ratchet teeth, although this is now the method recommended by the manufacturers, not because it is better, but because it reduces claims against them if the car fails to stay put. Pressing button as you lift is still better for long service life.

Replacing the lever is not too difficult, once you've gained access to it, past the seats and any centre console in the way.

Thank you, yes I do normally not press the button, so can totally understand the wear issue.
And you know, it's a Multipla of course there will be a new issue just after one is fixed, lol, I've still not sorted the ABS sensor either but maybe one day there will be enough time without major issues ey? lol

So a completel handbrake asembly is needed? Will check eper might have to be after christmas now all a bit much right now before, lol.

I've got my own ePER on another machine, from June 2012, and this lists 5 different part numbers.
The model year, full VIN and whether it has vehicle dynamic control, disc or drum rear brakes. (Do I remember its drums from another post?) And what model, SX, ELX, Active, Dynamic.
Don't post your VIN on here, send me a private message. I'll look up the part number, then we can see if any are available on eBay or elsewhere.

Just leave it in gear when you park up! Mine's got drum brakes and if I leave it with the handbrake on for a few days, the shoes tend to bind on to the drums anyway; leaving it in gear stops that problem as well.

Anyway, back to the OP - you're not having much luck with your bloody Multi are you! pb - on your eper, are the part numbers shown superseded ones, or do they look like fitments for different models? There are a couple of handbrake assemblies listed on ebay atm for around £20.

Yes rear drums and only SX, will dig out VIN when things have settled down a bit in my house just got in the door. Thanks!

Thanks for the VIN.
ePER has now revealed that up to the 2006 model year there were two levers, one for drum rear brakes, the other for discs. From 2006 there was another different part number, but that should not worry us.

Part number of the lever is 735266643. 18 months ago it was £110, so would be a little more now. At least that gives us a guide.

This one looks good. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-MULT...0-BREAKING-HANDBRAKE-LEVER-ONLY-/390662508037
Ask them to confirm drum rear brakes and grab it quick.

Or this one. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-MULT...ts_SM&fits=Model:Multipla&hash=item46140e2ea4
Ask same question, although I think both should be drum brakes from their spec.

Good luck, and have a good Christmas.

Excellent! Thanks a lot! I have asked seller a question, fingers crossed. (y)

That's a different issue. Water getting into the cable freezes. I think there are threads on here somewhere about that.

I know why it does it, I just thought it may help Hastings until he gets his fixed.
I live in a hilly town so leaving in gear wont hold it.
Where there isn't a kerb to turn the front wheels against. I chock it.
Can't wait for march.

Flat as a pancake here where I live (y) but I'd already started planning my driving around non hilly places, although your idea is absolutely better and less restrictive, lol
