Technical no dash working

Right im now confuzzled

i can have some clocks off guy breaking a S reg marea weekend for £25 all in.He sent me a pic today showing them working.

So....before i decided to send him money,i took the clocks out again and tested them direct from the battery using 2 wires from the + and -.Found out (after a spark lol) there are 2 earth pins no.14 and 7 on plug B.So set 1 wire at an earth pin and i touched all the other pins with the positive wire..All the dash symbols lit up,the backlight for the mileage..even the 'seatbelt warning' symbol that has never worked,then to my suprise when i touched pin 16,Temp and Fuel gauges risen..
The rev counter and speedo dials didnt even flicker or even move and neither did the mileage light up.

So unsure what to think now :bang:.Are my clocks buggard do ya think? dont want to waste £25 for a new set for them not to work in my car,as i cant send them back as he sent a pic working

Strange. Well if the new dials are the same you can be sure it is something wrong with the car at least.

suppose only way to find out would be to get them and go from there.

Problem Solved

after a lot of searching and testing the positive and earth wires and fiddling with the plugs, I decided to chance it and go buy new clocks for £25 all in with 111k on the clock.. (30k less than mine lol) It took me ages to find some off ebay after a lot of ringing scrappys and emailing breakers on ebay,i managed to come across a guy breaking his S reg 147 weekend.

I been out and fitted them soon as they arrived and im chuffed to see all dials working again

After putting that other ICV on it idles nicely just under 1k once it settles down.


so my problem was my clocks afterall, they had just randomly stopped working,weird
