Many thanks for your e-mail. We could arrange shipment on a ro/ro
vessel via Southampton and Newark. It is too early to give you
accurate
costings for mid 2006 but if you need an approximate idea, I expect the
round trip cost would be around £ 2500 to £ 3000. This is on the basis
that you would deliver the vehicle to Southampton on the outward leg
and
collect from Southampton on the return leg. NB - this price excludes
marine insurance.

All business is transacted in accordance with British International
Freight Association 2005 terms and conditions.

:idea: :idea: oK I have just enough time before July to design an outboard propeller system and some sort of bouancy system.

Captain Jim and First mate Alan set sail for the USA in the worlds first sea worthy Panda.

One down side I may have trouble with is Rustproofing. I don't know of anything remotely strong enough to keep salt water and Fiat metal apart.

I've tried them all over the last 20 years.

We can deal with this no problem at all.

I use a very good shipping company for RO-RO to the US, the guy is on
holiday until Monday next week but I will get some prices and info for
you
then if that's ok?
It will be best for the vehicle to travel until carnet, I believe the
AA
over here still deal with them or failing that I can out you in touch
with
the relevant organisation, It will allow the vehicle to ship and return
with
having to secure any taxes in the US and makes re-importation a breeze.

Carnets: The ATA (Admission Temporaire) Carnet The ATA Carnet is a standardized international customs document used to obtain duty-free temporary admission of certain goods into the countries that are signatories to the ATA Convention. Under the ATA Convention, commercial and professional travelers may take: commercial samples; tools of the trade; advertising material; and cinematographic, audiovisual, medical, scientific, or other professional equipment into member countries temporarily without paying customs duties and taxes or posting a bond at the border of each country to be visited.

The traveler should contact the U.S. Council for International Business to determine if the country to be visited is a member of the ATA Convention. The U.S. Council for International Business will answer questions regarding ATA Carnets and assist U.S. companies with the application. A fee is charged, depending on the value of the goods to be covered. A bond, letter of credit, or bank guaranty of 40 percent of the value of the goods is also required to cover duties and taxes that would be due if goods imported into a foreign country by carnet were not reexported and the duties were not paid by the carnet holder. Carnets are generally valid for 12 months.

Hopefully its not 40% of the Panda's new price!

Jim if nothing else I think I have Sylvia sorted engine wise. I fitted new points today while I was waiting for the smoke to wither away enough to see what else needs welded on Juppy.
No more hesitation :woot:

For good measure I'm going to fit new ht leads and Distributor But she's almost her old self.

Well... I've had to give up on the USA on the grounds of cost.

Either no one wants my business or they're quoting round three grand which is about double my budget.

It was a nice idea but it's going to have to go on the back burner for a year or two....

But there's always plan B!
