NEWBIE. Issues on 1.2 mk 2 fiat punto 2001

Hoping someone can help.
My 2001 1.2 mk2 fiat punto is making a steering noise ( almost sounds like a creaking when steering. Over the winter the red steering light came on a few times but when I stop turn car off and turn it on again it's gone. Also if I hit a pot hole or something it comes on too. The city button still works.
The window screen wipers intermittently stop or won't start a few months ago but hasn't happened since and yesterday the speedometer dropped down to 0 whilst I was on the motorway for about 5-10 seconds then went back up to the speed. This has happened once before for a few seconds but was months ago. Could all of these things be connected? :bang:

hi, and welcome,
they all point to a poor electrical supply,

the PAS is VERY hungry on electrical power,

the wipers use some( it's a motor)

but the speedo uses / needs very little..,


I would maybe suspect the battery, but worth checking / cleaning the main earth points under the bonnet 1st,

EDIT = :idea: double check the Scuttle ( tank / tray) under windscreen isn't full of water.. the electrics don't like that:yuck:

We inserted some grease into the ball joint on right front arm suspension and the noise went so we have replaced that arm suspension now and all is ok. The speedometer did drop off again today though on the motorway. Hasn't done that in quite a few weeks.
