Hi all. New to these parts. Bought a nice mint original red Sporting last year but unfortunately the head gasket has just gone. There goes out of the window my plans to keep it original, I think I'm going to put a 1.4 in it. :D I've done a search and got a good flavour for what I need / need to do.

However I have a couple questions:

Out of all the 1.4 engines, is the Stilo 1.4 engine the one to get? Do I need to get the ECU as well and also the lockset too? What other parts do I need to take off the donor car?

Do I need to take the Stilo gearbox or does the 1.4 engine work fine with the stock 5-speed Cinq gearbox? Or should I upgrade to the 6-speed gearbox while I'm at it?

Im sure I will be asking many more questions as time progresses!

Thanks for the reply Fingers - no, I hadn't seen that link, thats going to be a massive help.

I am guessing the easiest option is to just use the Stilo / Idea ecu (i am not looking for any power gains over stock, the 95 hp is going to be more than enough), however is there any way to strip out the anti theft capabilities from it so I can just carry on using the Cinq keys and lockset? Or am I going to be stuck having the stilo/idea ignition key and a separate Cinq key to operate the doors/tailgate?

Thanks, seems its a bit too much hassle now for me in this moment in time this 1.4 swap.......
