Hi folks,

Ive been using a Garmin i3 for the last couple of years, but I've decided its time for an upgrade.

The two units I have in mind are the Tomtom One (v2) or the Gamin Nuvi 360.

From the searches I've done, both have similar feature sets - but I wondered if either one was better than the other?

Any advice or thoughts would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Ian.

I havn't had the chance to play with a 360.

But if it's anything like the Nuvi 310D or the 660, it's very worth getting.
Tomtoms tend to be more modular, ie you can upgrade them with more features, but more recently the garmins are becoming worth getting.

If i had to go out today and buy a sat nav, i'd a get a 310D then take data from a 660 and enable the Text To Speach. then your basically getting a Tomtom 910 with traffic master (£410 worth) for £270.

but be wary if buying A 310D for now.
I don't know about other retailers but we sent back a whole batch (20 units) as the traffic module was getting stuck in the USB port on the side.
Hopefully this is only a bad batch, but my advice is if you do decide to buy one, check it out in the shop.

Hi folks,

Many thanks for all the advice.

Funny you should mention the 310d though, as I saw one in Halfords after I posted and it did catch my eye to be honest.

So the advice from OXCiD 3 in artcular s very handy. I'm not totally sure whet yo mean though - does the traffic updats come through a separate module that you attach to the main unit - I had assumed it was all contained within the unit itself?

Ian.

It comes in the form of a small areal that plugs into the side of the unit that needs to be close to the windscreen. Mine however is tucked behind the dash and it still works fine.

The C510D and the Nuvi 660 come with the areal built into the power lead.

You can now buy this option for the TomTom GO range at a price of £69.99, but it's free on the selected Garmin models.

Ah right - thanks for that...

I must admit I have a bit of a yearning for the Nuvi 310d now....just trying to weigh up the difference between saving a few quid on line OR spending a bit more at say Halfords and at least having somewhere to take it back to if I do have any probs....

Ian

I'd say if there isnt much of a price difference buy it in a shop, i'm all for buying over the web and i do all the time and for tech stuff etc, but if your only talking 5% difference, knowing you can take it to a shop and give them the grief to deal with it is handy i've just spent 3 months returning a graphics tablet to pixmania, because they (NOT Royal Mail) lost it. Where as when i return a monitor to AG Neovo they give me a brand new one before they even take mine, now thats service.

i work for currys and would recommend the tom tom one europe its around £200 depending on wether its on sale or not! all you have to do is put the sd card loaded with maps on it into the slot and then its ready! you can also get camera warning downloads for about £20 for a years subscription! although we sell navman and garmin i would always recommend tom tom

But you wanna get it from Halfords though :p:p:p

I have a Tom Tom One & it borders on being useless. Unless I have got it set up incorrectly.
Start a new thread about it. My TomTom has been fine for the 2 years I've owned it. I'd recommend them.
