Interesting plan! I'll see how it goes - if this happens repeatedly, worth a try.
Hasn't done the same again, but I notice that now and again it does a cold reboot on turning the ignition on. No reception on AM radio, which is no big deal. Other than that, behaving well!

I was leaning towards getting a Uconnect7 unit and fitting it, but I just called to a used parts lot and I laughed hard when the owner told me that he wanted 250€ + VAT (which means a 310€ total) for a USED unit!
I found on AliExpress this one which seems identical to the Erisin that has been suggested on this thread. The 4GB RAM unit costs only 147€.

P.S. I found another Uconnect7 unit for 160€.
What do you think, lads? Is it worth it or should I get the aftermarket one with the same money?

P.S.2
I am also looking at this one. Much larger screen and, judging by the reviews, it seems nice.

There are lots that look similar to the Erisin one - hard for them to look different of course! - but Berlinasportiva on here tried several similar ones and none performed as well as the Erisin one I believe. The bigger tablet type ones look out of place ugly, so I'd say go with the Erisin one. You can order directly off their website.

Yes, indeed, from what I read the Erisin is a much safer bet. And I do agree, that it fits perfectly, while the 9" one stands out. Of course, a bigger screen is always welcome.

So, I have the Erisin in my cart and I am ready to place the order. Just a few (repetitive, I know) questions, to clear things up:

1. Since my Uconnect5 has navi and reverse camera, I just have to plug in the cables and they are going to work, right?
2. Are the steering wheel controls, fully functional with the Erisin?
3. How does it handle high tempetatures? I live in Greece and from June to August the heat is (at least for me) unbearable. There are frequent heatwaves during which we are talking about 37-40C at noon. The Uconnect unit does not have any problem with that, at least so far. Will the Erisin survive this?

Thanks in advance.

1. Yes. There seems to be different types of reverse camera connections, canbus and non canbus maybe, but both types work I believe.
2. Yes, fully functional.
3. I'm in South Africa, early summer. Daily temperatures 30c to 34c, and over 40c inside the car if it sits in the sun, and the Erisin seems happy enough, so I think you'll be fine.

Well, I ordered it from the Erisin warehouse in Germany, so it should arrive within next week.

Hello lads!
It arrived today and I tried to give it a go, but things did not go well.
I removed the factory unit and I plugged in the wiring loom. I connected the power supply (black plug), the audio out rca plugs and camera connection, but when I tried to switch the unit on, it just didn't. At the same time, the odometer was flashing (probably proxy alignment is required) and I got the error that my parking sensors are not available (weird?).
I put the old one back in, since it is already late and dark and freezing outside and I put it back in it's box, in order to try tomorrow. Did I miss something? Any ideas?

Just to clarify things, here are the photos of the 4 Uconnect unit's connectors (black multi-pinned one, USB which is unplugged in the photo and the two antennae).:

Also, I just thought of something. I, foolishly, forgot to plug the CANBUS decoder box...

Same as mine. You *did* connect the CANbus module, yes?

Yes. I was that stupid! It was the CANBUS box that I had left unplugged... Now it works, but...
The steering wheel buttons are not working. I fiddled with the settings and on the menu that is supposed to calibrate the buttons, none is detected...

I remember having the same issue. It's not the calibration that you need to do, you need to select the correct can bus type in the settings. Something like default fiat can bus type.

Edit:

Settings->General->Canbus type classification selection and from there simple fiat tipo

Yes! That did the trick! Many thanks!
Another strange thing, the buttons' back illumination just stopped... Any ideas? Maybe a settings thing? - Found it!
Now, the only thing that bugs me, is that incoming calls are not managed by Android Auto, but by the proprietary bt app.
Everything else seems to be in order.

Good afternoon all and Happy New year,
I've just finished installing an Android 13 stereo from Amazon. It looks great and was really easy, it came with a reversing camera so installed that as well. I purchased from eBay the factory boot release and reverse camera housing so it would look factory. In order for the canbus functions to work correctly you have to tell the stereo what car you're in, to do this you need to go to setting, factory (input password) then select specific vehicle, it will now prompt you to update vehicle database, you have to use your mobile as a WiFi hotspot and connect to stereo. Once vehicle database is updated you can select desired vehicle.
Hope this is of some use to somebody.
Regards Skez
